Appearance
Luctus is a lean, sharp-featured half-elf with dark brown hair worn just long enough to fall across his forehead and pale amber eyes that rarely stay fixed on one person for long. His clothes are practical and carefully altered, a charcoal leather coat reinforced at the elbows and patched with fabric from several different garments. The coat fits slightly too large across his shoulders, giving him room to move and making his silhouette difficult to read. His hands are weathered from lockpicks, cold streets, and long travel, while one small silver button on his coat is polished obsessively bright. He carries himself with loose, watchful confidence, as if every room has already revealed its exits.
Mannerisms
Luctus casually studies doors, windows, hands, and pockets whenever he enters a room. He speaks with a faintly amused tone even when discussing danger, and he pauses before answering personal questions as though checking whether the truth is worth the risk.
Personality
Witty and guarded, Luctus treats conversation like a card game and rarely reveals his whole hand. He is observant to the point of distraction, loyal to a very small circle, and suspicious of anyone who claims certainty too easily. He values truth and purpose more than comfort, but his sense of purpose is increasingly shaped by vengeance.
Ideals
Truth has value only when someone is willing to act on it. I would rather live dangerously and honestly than survive by accepting a convenient lie.
Bonds
I will expose the magistrate and criminal broker responsible for destroying my old crew, no matter how long it takes or how many laws I must break.
Flaws
I assume every kindness conceals a price, and I would rather ruin a useful alliance than admit I trusted the wrong person. Once vengeance takes hold, practical judgment becomes an inconvenience.
Quirks
Background
Luctus Vulliscor grew up between two worlds and belonged fully to neither. His elven blood made him too strange for some human neighborhoods, while his human impatience and blunt humor made him an awkward guest among elves. He learned early that people reveal more when they believe they are being ignored. By adolescence, he was carrying messages, lifting purses, and opening doors for a small criminal network that valued his eyes and his memory more than his heritage. He became known for a dry wit, a calm hand, and an irritating habit of noticing the one detail everyone else had missed. The network eventually became more than a source of coin. It was the closest thing Luctus had to a family, until a trusted handler sold several members to a corrupt magistrate. Luctus survived because he was sent on a minor errand that night, returning to find the safehouse emptied and the few people he loved either dead or imprisoned. The official story called it a justified arrest. Luctus knows it was a betrayal, and he has devoted himself to finding the people responsible, uncovering the truth, and deciding what justice means when the law is part of the crime. He still steals, lies, and breaks rules without hesitation, but he refuses to betray the few people who have earned his loyalty.
