Appearance
Krizaren is a slender elf woman with porcelain-pale skin, long midnight-black hair threaded with silver, and deep ebony eyes surrounded by faint lavender shadows that give her a perpetually sleepless appearance. A delicate scar crosses one cheek. Her small mouth rests in a natural downward curve, painted a muted bloody red, and her rare smiles reveal slightly pointed canines. She wears a frayed, tattered cloak over a corset-style bodice, dark tunic, and supple leather leggings. A gnarled staff decorated with feathers and bones rests in one hand, while an ancient leather-bound spellbook is usually tucked beneath the other arm. A twisted silver and onyx pendant hangs at her throat. She smells faintly of cold ash, old paper, and crushed juniper. In conversation, her gaze often fixes on doorways, windows, and empty corners before returning to the speaker.
Mannerisms
Krizaren pauses before entering any room, silently counting exits and windows. She turns pages with the side of one finger, avoids touching other people unnecessarily, and occasionally tilts her head as though listening to a voice far beyond ordinary hearing. When she lies, she becomes unusually polite.
Personality
Krizaren is quiet, observant, and unnervingly composed. She speaks with sharp precision, rarely wastes a word, and watches the behavior of a room more closely than the faces within it. Her humor is dry and occasionally cruel, but she is not needlessly vicious. Beneath her reserve is a fierce, disciplined protectiveness toward travelers, exiles, and anyone forced to survive between worlds.
Ideals
Order. The world is full of forces that feed on confusion. Every danger must be named, measured, and bound by a rule before it can be trusted.
Bonds
The ancient spellbook once belonged to her vanished father, and Krizaren will cross continents to recover any missing pages or discover the truth of his final expedition.
Flaws
Krizaren treats compassion as a resource that must be rationed, and she can abandon people who violate her rules even when mercy would be wiser. She is drawn toward forbidden knowledge despite knowing exactly how dangerous it can be. When frightened, she becomes colder and more precise rather than admitting fear.
Quirks
Background
Krizaren was born in an isolated woodland settlement where elven wardens guarded old roads, forgotten ruins, and places where the natural world had been wounded by reckless magic. Her human father was a traveling scholar who vanished while investigating a sealed ruin, while her elven mother served as a guide and keeper of the settlement’s boundary stones. Krizaren inherited her father’s hunger for knowledge and her mother’s instinct for silence, but never felt wholly claimed by either culture. The elves considered her curiosity too intrusive, while human visitors found her manner too distant and unsettling. When a series of unnatural shadows began moving through the forest, Krizaren followed them to the ruin where her father had disappeared. There she found his broken journal, a half-finished ritual, and a leather tome containing arcane formulae written in several dead scripts. She stopped the ritual before it could fully open a passage, but the effort left her with a permanent unease around empty spaces and reflected surfaces. Since then, she has traveled as an outlander and wizard, mapping dangerous places, studying forbidden magic, and deciding by strict personal law when knowledge must be preserved and when it must be destroyed. Some villages remember her as a protector who drove monsters into the dark. Others remember the cold smile she wore while deciding which homes could not be saved.
