Appearance
Shessha is a broad-shouldered orc with deep green-gray skin, a shaved scalp except for a narrow braid behind the left ear, and carefully maintained lower tusks capped with small brass bands. Their clothes and armor are plainly made but obsessively clean, with every buckle polished and every strap tied in the same square knot. Shessha's most noticeable feature is not a wound but the sound they make before speaking, a slow nasal breath followed by a quiet clearing of the throat, as if each sentence must first pass inspection.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, Shessha inhales through the nose, clears their throat once, and waits a heartbeat. They polish their brass tusk caps whenever thinking, and they inspect doorways, windows, and ceilings in that order upon entering a room.
Personality
Quietly attentive and unusually patient with frightened people, Shessha speaks in short, measured sentences. They are protective without being gentle about it, and they show affection by checking armor straps, sharing food, or taking the more dangerous watch.
Ideals
Duty should protect people, not merely preserve orders. A command that abandons the helpless has already forfeited its authority.
Bonds
I carry the names of the civilians my unit failed to protect, and I will not allow another commander to make those names meaningless.
Flaws
I mistake hesitation for cowardice, especially when someone else may be harmed by it, and I can become harsh before I have heard the whole story.
Quirks
Background
Shessha grew up among an orc caravan that crossed high valleys and dry salt roads, carrying tools, dyes, and metalwork between settlements. Their family valued useful hands over loud boasts, and Shessha learned early that a person could earn trust by repairing a broken harness before anyone asked. They also learned the old marching songs of their people, songs with long hissing breaths that carried cleanly across thin mountain air. When a border settlement was threatened by raiders, Shessha joined its levy and discovered a talent for standing exactly where danger was worst. Their service was brief but respected, ending after Shessha refused an officer's order to abandon wounded civilians. They left with a battered shield, a soldier's rank, and an enduring suspicion of anyone who treats obedience as a virtue by itself. Now Shessha travels as a practical sword for hire, hoping to build a company whose first rule is that no one gets left behind.
