Appearance
Ketzak is a lean, dark-furred satyr with compact curling horns, copper-brown eyes, and a narrow face framed by carefully braided black hair. Small bronze bells are woven into one braid, but they are muted with wax so they chime only when he chooses. He dresses in a weathered green cloak over a cream linen shirt, fitted leather armor, and soft traveling boots. His grooming is precise, almost fussy, especially around his horns and beard. Before speaking, he pauses for one measured breath and lightly taps two fingers against his throat, as though tuning an instrument.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, he takes a deliberate breath and taps two fingers against his throat. He adjusts his cuffs whenever he lies, hums fragments of melodies while thinking, and checks the position of nearby exits before sitting down.
Personality
Ketzak is courteous, observant, and quietly theatrical. He prefers questions to declarations and collects the small sounds people make when they think no one is listening. Though he spent years in isolation, he is fascinated by company and often studies group dynamics as if they were a complicated song.
Ideals
Truth should be approached gently, but never concealed for the comfort of the powerful. Knowledge is a lantern, and refusing to carry it is its own kind of cruelty.
Bonds
He carries a cracked clay music tablet from the shrine that first answered his song. He will risk almost anything to discover who composed its hidden melody and why it has begun appearing in his dreams.
Flaws
Ketzak is so determined to understand hidden meanings that he can turn a simple kindness into an investigation. He dislikes admitting confusion, and when frightened he becomes controlling, correcting other people's words and insisting on exact plans.
Quirks
Background
Ketzak was raised among satyrs who treated music as a form of weather. A drumbeat could call a gathering, a flute could settle an argument, and a well-timed song could make grief bearable without pretending it was gone. He learned the lute from his aunt, a wandering storyteller, but his own music always carried an uneasy second rhythm, a pattern he heard beneath ordinary sounds. He believed it was only an eccentricity until a ruined shrine began answering his melodies with distant notes. After that night, Ketzak withdrew to a lonely hillside garden where he studied herbs, old prayers, and the fragments of songs preserved in cracked tablets. His years of solitude taught him patience, but not peace. He eventually realized the hidden rhythm was a warning about a place where memories were being stolen from the living. Now he travels as a bard and reluctant investigator, using charm, wit, and carefully chosen dissonance to find the source of the melody. He still keeps a hermit's habits, cataloguing every plant he sees and sleeping lightly, but he has begun to suspect that the truth he sought alone may only be understood among other people.
