Appearance
Ignis is a small, compact kobold with rust-red scales, a charcoal-black snout, and bright amber eyes that seem to hold a banked ember. His horns curve backward like tiny temple flames, and the scales along his shoulders and spine are darker from years spent near incense braziers. He wears simple monk's wraps beneath a soldier's practical gear, with a red cord tied around one wrist to mark his fire-temple lineage. He smells faintly of ash, hot stone, and cinnamon incense, a scent he rarely notices himself. When waiting, he stands perfectly upright with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet, as if the ground might become a training mat at any moment.
Mannerisms
Ignis performs tiny, nearly invisible stretches whenever he is standing still. Before answering a difficult question, he presses two claws together and exhales slowly through his nose. He addresses open flames as if they are elderly teachers and instinctively straightens objects that are out of alignment.
Personality
Ignis is intensely disciplined, courteous, and patient, with the focused attention of someone who has spent years watching a flame. He speaks plainly and rarely raises his voice. He believes every physical limitation is an instruction rather than an insult, so he meets hardship with quiet determination. Beneath his stern training is a protective kindness, especially toward frightened creatures, young soldiers, and anyone who reminds him of the temple novices he once guarded.
Ideals
Discipline. Strength is worthless without control, and control is worthless without compassion. I will make my body a steady flame that protects others.
Bonds
The fire temple that raised me is my true home. I will protect its people, its sacred flame, and the memory of my mentor, even if doing so costs me everything.
Flaws
Ignis treats rest as a moral weakness and will push his body past exhaustion rather than admit that he needs help. He is also too quick to obey anyone who speaks with the calm authority of a temple instructor or military commander.

Background
Ignis Kraos was born beneath the red-tiled roofs of a fire temple built into the side of an old volcanic ridge. His clan served as keepers of the temple's furnaces, carrying coals, polishing brass icons, and learning to read the moods of flame. The priests taught that fire was not merely destruction, but discipline made visible. A flame that flared wildly wasted itself. A flame that burned steadily could warm a village, temper steel, and guide the lost. Ignis took those lessons literally, shaping his small body through relentless drills until every movement became measured and deliberate. When soldiers came to the temple seeking guides through the volcanic passes, Ignis joined them as a runner and camp guard. He discovered that military discipline and monastic discipline were branches of the same tree, both demanding obedience to purpose rather than impulse. During one disastrous expedition, Ignis held a narrow pass long enough for wounded soldiers and temple novices to escape, but afterward he realized he had been fighting only to endure, not to protect. He returned to the temple, where his mentor told him that a controlled flame must still be carried into the darkness. Now Ignis travels as a wandering monk and former soldier, seeking trials that will strengthen his body, preserve his compassion, and prove that even a kobold from a hidden fire temple can become a guardian worthy of the flame.
