Appearance
Celeste is a quick-eyed lightfoot halfling with sun-browned skin, curled chestnut hair usually tied back with sailor's cord, and a grin that suggests she knows three ways to win a fight without throwing a punch. She wears well-oiled leather armor under a sea-blue coat with hidden pockets, and keeps a weather-beaten rapier at her hip, a shortbow slung across her back, and a favorite ring of tiny charms from ports she has never forgotten.
Mannerisms
Celeste always sits where she can see every exit, fingers tapping out shipboard rhythms on table edges. When thinking, she unconsciously ties and unties knots with any cord within reach, and she laughs softly under her breath when a plan is especially daring.
Personality
Bright, watchful, and dryly funny, Celeste treats risk like a language she speaks fluently. She is generous with honest labor, stubborn about injustice, and impossible to intimidate for long.
Ideals
Freedom. The sea taught her that no one owns the horizon, and no captain, lord, or law should own a soul either.
Bonds
She still wears a braided cord from her first ship around her wrist, and she will risk herself to protect any crew that treats her like family. She also hunts for the fate of a vanished captain who once gave her a second chance.
Flaws
Celeste cannot resist a locked door, a sealed chest, or a dare that sounds impossible. She also keeps secrets too well, sometimes withholding the one truth that would save everyone trouble because she thinks she can solve things alone.
Quirks
Background
Celeste was born in a riverside burrow where the horizon was a rumor and the wind smelled of wet reeds. Like many halflings, she was expected to stay close to home, keep the kettle warm, and leave dangerous distances to taller folk. Celeste agreed right up until the day she stowed away aboard a merchant cutter, hidden in a sail locker with a stolen apple and a borrowed knife. The crew found her after three days at sea, half-starved, fiercely proud, and already useful enough with knots, ropes, and slippery little hands that they did not throw her overboard. She learned the sea the hard way, as a runner, deckhand, and eventually a problem solver for captains who preferred quiet solutions to loud ones. Her talent for slipping into places, loosening the right bolt, and appearing where no one expected made her invaluable, especially when cargo needed to be recovered from thieves or debts needed to be collected without starting a war. Now she sails not for a single ship, but for work, fortune, and the rumor of a map that points to something stolen from her first crew, something she intends to put back in the right hands before her luck runs out.
