Appearance
Eric is a mountain of a dwarf, standing broader than most of his kin with a frame hardened by years of highland survival. His beard is a deep, earthy brown, braided tightly with iron rings and kept short enough not to snag on his armor. His skin is tanned and weathered like old leather, and he wears heavy, functional chain mail that bears the scuffs and scratches of countless skirmishes. He rarely travels without his shield, which is embossed with the simple image of a mountain peak.
Mannerisms
Eric speaks in a low rumble that sounds like stones grinding together. He has a habit of folding his arms and nodding slowly while listening, and he rarely makes eye contact unless he is issuing a command or a warning.
Personality
Eric is a man of few words and absolute reliability. He views the world through the lens of a sentinel, constantly scanning the horizon for threats or shifts in the weather. He treats his companions with the same care a guide treats a novice traveler, showing a gruff but genuine concern for their safety. He values the laws of the road and the ancient traditions of his clan above all else.
Ideals
Greater Good. It is the responsibility of the strong to shield the weak and uphold the justice of the land.
Bonds
I am the last of a line of guardians, and I carry the shield of my ancestors. I will not see it broken or dishonored.
Flaws
I have little patience for those who have never survived a night in the wild, and I can be overly rigid in my expectations of others.
Quirks
Background
Born in the high peaks of the Oakhaven Range, Eric was never content with the air inside the deep tunnels of his home. While his brothers mined for gold, Eric spent his youth guarding the mountain passes, protecting trade caravans from giant raids and the harsh elements. He became known as a 'Rimguard,' one of the few dwarves who spent more time under the sun than under stone. He eventually left his clan to travel further afield, acting as a protector for those who must brave the wild frontier. His transition to a wandering fighter was natural. During a particularly brutal winter, he led a stranded group of refugees through a goblin-infested pass, an event that earned him a reputation for tactical brilliance and unwavering grit. Eric doesn't fight for glory or coin, but because he believes the world is a dangerous place that needs steady hands and strong shields to keep it safe. He travels now to find where his skills are most needed, guided by the stars and the terrain he knows so well. Though he is an outlander at heart, Eric retains the discipline of a soldier. He has seen kingdoms fall to internal chaos, and he firmly believes that the structure of Lawful Good society is the only thing keeping the darkness of the wilderness at bay. He carries his sword not just as a weapon, but as a tool of order in a world that often forgets its own rules.
