Appearance
Aurelian is a tall, broad-shouldered aasimar woman with sun-bright amber eyes and warm bronze skin that seems to hold a faint inner glow when she is angry or inspired. Her hair is silver-blonde, usually tied back in a practical warrior's knot, and a pale scar crosses one cheek from temple to jaw. She wears polished chain mail over a weather-worn soldier's cloak, with a spear marked by notches for each campaign and a small shield painted with a faded sunburst.
Mannerisms
She stands at parade-rest when thinking, then catches herself and relaxes only after a long breath. In conversation she taps two fingers against her shield rim like a drill cadence, and when she is angry the light in her eyes brightens before her voice does.
Personality
Blunt, brave, and unexpectedly gentle, Aurelian speaks like a veteran giving useful advice and listens like a bodyguard counting exits. She loves practical jokes, honest courage, and anyone who stands up for the powerless. She hates cruelty disguised as discipline.
Ideals
Freedom with responsibility. No law, banner, or holy mandate is worth more than a living person. Power should be used to shield the vulnerable, and if the rules demand cruelty, then the rules must be broken.
Bonds
She still keeps the broken insignia of her former unit, and she will not let their sacrifice be remembered as anything less than noble. Aurelian is also fiercely protective of common soldiers, refugees, and anyone trapped under cruel orders.
Flaws
Aurelian can be infuriatingly impulsive when she believes someone is being bullied, manipulated, or ordered into cruelty. She sometimes assumes she knows the right answer because she has seen war up close, and she struggles to trust officials, even decent ones, if they wear authority too comfortably.
Quirks
Background
Aurelian was born with a celestial spark that made her impossible to ignore, even among the hard-eyed recruits of the frontier legion that took her in. The officers called it a blessing, but the rank and file saw something stranger, a girl whose wounds closed too quickly, whose voice carried over the clamor of shields, and whose temper could turn a training yard into a storm. She learned early that divinity did not keep a blade from biting, so she trained harder than everyone else, matching miracle with muscle and courage. By the time she earned her spear and shield, she had also earned the respect of veterans who would trust her with their lives. Her unit was ordered to burn a village suspected of harboring deserters. Aurelian refused. She broke formation, dragged civilians to safety, and helped the deserters escape instead of executing them. The act branded her a traitor, but to her it was the first honest thing she had ever done in uniform. Now she travels as a fighter not for banners or commanders, but to protect people who have no use for polished excuses and to prove that strength can serve mercy without becoming weak. The light in her soul still answers when battle calls, but she wields it like a weapon she intends to aim herself.
