Appearance
Beck is a broad-shouldered Half-Elf with sun-darkened skin and eyes the color of a mossy riverbed. He keeps his brown hair tied back with a leather cord, though loose strands often frame his rugged, scarred face. He wears heavy bear furs over a simple leather harness, leaving his corded muscles visible. A massive, well-maintained greataxe rests on his back, and his former military insignia is pinned firmly to his belt.
Mannerisms
He has a habit of tilting his head like a predator when he hears an unfamiliar sound, and he frequently checks the horizon for shifts in the wind or weather.
Personality
Beck is uncommonly calm for a man of such legendary temper, often speaking in low, measured tones that command respect. He views the world through the lens of a weary protector, preferring the honest silence of the forest to the double-talk of cities. He has a dry, self-deprecating sense of humor and displays an intense, quiet focus when performing tasks like sharpening his weapons or scouting a path.
Ideals
Freedom. No person should be shackled by the laws of others if those laws are used for oppression. Protection. It is the duty of the strong to stand between the innocent and the things that go bump in the night.
Bonds
I carry a river stone polished by the current, a reminder of the unit I lost and the people I could not save. My greataxe belonged to my father, and I will see it bloodied in the name of justice.
Flaws
I am prone to ignoring orders from those I don't respect, regardless of their rank. Once my blood starts boiling, I find it incredibly difficult to back down from a fight, even when outnumbered.
Quirks
Background
Born to a wood elf scout and a human river merchant, Beck grew up navigating the winding waterways between civilization and the deep wilds. He found his calling in the regional militia, where his physical prowess and keen instincts quickly led to a leadership role. During a catastrophic floods season, his unit was ambushed by a massive war-band of trolls in a narrow ravine. Beck survived not through strategy, but through a terrifying, primeval fury that awakened within him as he watched his comrades perish. After that battle, he earned the moniker River, a tribute to the unstoppable force of nature he became in combat. Eventually, the rigid bureaucracy of the army became too much for him to bear. He retired his commission and sought the guidance of the bear spirit, realizing that his rage was a gift from the wild intended for greater purposes than defending borders. He now travels as a wanderer, lending his strength to those threatened by the monsters that dwell in the dark corners of the map.
