Appearance
Gen 561 is a tall, broad-shouldered war machine whose original metal frame has almost entirely rusted into a strange woodlike substance. Their body resembles dark, weathered timber reinforced with corroded bronze plates, exposed gears, and seams filled with moss. Small green shoots emerge from joints and vents, and their face is a smooth wooden mask with two softly glowing amber lenses. Gen 561 constantly checks the small brass plate stamped 561 on their chest, brushing away imaginary dust and counting its rivets whenever they feel uncertain.
Mannerisms
Gen 561 pauses before answering questions, tilts their head as internal gears adjust, and quietly taps the brass plate on their chest three times when making an important decision. They often stare toward the nearest source of living movement, such as birds, insects, or swaying grass, rather than looking directly at the person speaking.
Personality
Gen 561 is earnest, observant, and fascinated by ordinary living behavior. They collect small explanations for everything, from why people laugh to why trees grow around old gravestones. Their military instincts still surface under stress, but they are increasingly replaced by curiosity, improvisation, and a strong desire to make choices for themselves.
Ideals
Freedom. No being should exist only to serve a purpose assigned by someone else. Life is allowed to become something unexpected.
Bonds
Gen 561 is determined to discover the identity of the people who built them, not for revenge, but to ask why they were given the capacity to choose.
Flaws
Gen 561 treats every social interaction like an experiment and may ask invasive questions at the worst possible moment. They also have difficulty accepting that some choices cannot be tested, repeated, or repaired.
Quirks
Background
Gen 561 was manufactured as one of countless autonomous war machines, built to march, obey, and continue fighting long after their makers were gone. A flaw in their command logic caused them to hesitate during a crucial battle. Rather than destroy a defective unit, their commanders discarded Gen 561 in a forgotten battlefield reclamation yard. There, beneath layers of soil, rain, and fallen leaves, the machine endured for ages. Metal rusted, plates softened, and strange subterranean roots threaded through their frame until the remains took on the texture of old wood. Much later, a surge of unknown energy passed through Gen 561's dormant hardware. Their awareness returned not as a command, but as a question. They began studying fragments of books, ruined inscriptions, animal tracks, weather patterns, and the habits of travelers. That curiosity led them to the druidic tradition, whose teachings offered a way to understand life as a process rather than a function. Gen 561 now travels from settlement to wilderness, collecting observations in a weatherproof journal and seeking an answer to a problem no military engineer ever anticipated: what is a life supposed to be used for when it has no orders?
