Appearance
A lean, long-limbed female tabaxi with tawny-gold fur marked by russet rosettes and a dark stripe running from her brow to the tip of her tail. Her green eyes are bright and watchful, and a small notch cuts through the edge of her left ear. She wears weathered leather armor beneath a moss-green traveling cloak, with a wooden shield painted in spiraling leaf patterns. Her quarterstaff is wrapped with scraps of colored cloth, tiny bells, and dried herbs.
Mannerisms
Mairavela tilts her head sharply when listening, blinks slowly when considering a question, and often tastes the air before making a decision. When excited, she paces in small circles while speaking and unconsciously taps her tail against her staff.
Personality
Mairavela is bright, inquisitive, and easily delighted by small discoveries. She treats old books, unfamiliar animals, and half-forgotten ruins with the same eager attention. She is generous with practical help, but her mind moves so quickly that she sometimes begins explaining a theory before realizing nobody asked.
Ideals
Knowledge should be carried into the world and used to protect the vulnerable. A fact locked away in a tower is less valuable than one that saves a life.
Bonds
The surviving journals of the vanished natural philosopher are her most treasured possession. She has sworn to uncover the source of the woodland blight and return one day to restore the grove that sheltered her.
Flaws
She cannot resist investigating an unusual plant, ruin, inscription, or magical phenomenon, even when everyone else recognizes the danger. She also becomes defensive when challenged by people who mistake curiosity for ignorance.
Quirks
Background
Mairavela grew up among a traveling tabaxi caravan that followed old trade roads, seasonal markets, and rumors of places worth seeing. As a kitten, she was fascinated by the scraps of parchment and strange objects traded by merchants. Her curiosity led her to an abandoned woodland observatory, where she discovered the journals of a natural philosopher who had vanished while studying a blight spreading through the nearby hills. Mairavela brought the journals to a secluded druidic grove, expecting the druids to dismiss them as the work of a dusty scholar. Instead, they recognized that the notes described a living sickness in the land, and they took her in as an apprentice. She learned to read the language of roots, weather, animal tracks, and old books with equal enthusiasm. Her training was interrupted when the blight reached the grove, forcing the druids to scatter while Mairavela carried the journals to safety. Now she travels as both field researcher and healer, seeking evidence of the sickness wherever it appears. She is determined to understand the cause before it destroys another sanctuary, though her restless curiosity often pulls her toward danger long before caution can catch up.
