Appearance
A young mixed-skinned male elf with a lean athletic build, short curly black hair, dark brown alert eyes, and a quietly defiant expression. He wears a snow-white hunter’s coat with intricate woven patterns, a small shoulder capelet, fitted sea-blue leather bracers, sturdy travel boots, and a pointed white leather tricorn-style hat. A golden recurve longbow rests in his hand, with paired curved blades at his belt and a carved icy focus hanging beside them. His movements are controlled and economical, but he pauses for one measured breath before speaking, as though judging the wind.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, he pauses and draws one quiet breath through his nose. He walks with his weight slightly forward, always ready to turn into a sprint, and unconsciously measures doorways, windows, and escape routes. When irritated, he taps two fingers against his bow grip in the rhythm of a marching cadence.
Personality
Quietly defiant, observant, and disciplined. Aurelian speaks little in camp, but he notices every change in weather, posture, and tone. He is protective toward civilians, children, and inexperienced travelers, though he disguises concern as brisk instruction. His dry humor appears without warning, usually at the worst possible moment.
Ideals
Protection. Skill exists to protect people who cannot protect themselves. Any order that abandons the helpless has already forfeited the right to be obeyed.
Bonds
The surviving families of the winter village are his responsibility. He also carries the name of the commander who died covering for his disobedience, and he refuses to let that sacrifice become an obscure footnote.
Flaws
He treats every disagreement like the opening movement of a military tribunal. Once he decides someone is endangering civilians, he becomes nearly impossible to persuade, even when retreat or compromise would be wiser.
Quirks
Background
Aurelian Vostari was raised in a border settlement where human watchtowers stood beneath ancient elven boughs. His mother taught him the patient geometry of painting, while his father served as a trail officer for the local defense force. Aurelian learned to sketch terrain before he learned to read battle reports, and he came to understand that a painted ridge line could save more lives than a heroic speech. His unusual gift for noticing changes in snow, light, and animal movement eventually brought him into the army as a scout and forward observer. During a winter campaign against raiders and monsters from the northern passes, Aurelian’s unit was ordered to abandon a village that had been marked for destruction. He disobeyed, guiding civilians through a blizzard by painting temporary blue sigils onto stones and tree trunks. The village survived, but his commanding officer took the blame for his insubordination and was executed. Aurelian left the army carrying the officer’s white coat and a carved fragment of enchanted ice from the old watch shrine. Now he travels as a ranger, hunting the warlords, beasts, and profiteers who turn wilderness into a weapon. He still paints every trail he saves, not for glory, but so someone else can find the way home.
