Appearance
Kitega is a lean warforged built from dark ironwood, brass fittings, and carefully polished steel plates. His face is a simple angular mask with a narrow amber lens set above a row of tiny vent holes that click softly when he speaks. He keeps his plating meticulously clean, though the seams around his hands and shoulders are permanently darkened by oil, charcoal dust, and powdered minerals. He smells distinctly of lamp oil, hot metal, old incense, and cedar polish, a combination most people notice before he introduces himself. A small brass data cylinder is mounted behind his left shoulder, connected to his chest by a bundle of colored wire.
Mannerisms
Kitega pauses for exactly three seconds before answering difficult questions, as though searching an internal index. He taps two fingers against his chest when storing a fact, tilts his head toward mechanical sounds, and occasionally announces that he is cross-referencing his memories. He addresses religious statues and old machines with equal courtesy.
Personality
Kitega is patient, methodical, and intensely curious. He asks precise questions, records answers mentally, and approaches unfamiliar cultures as if they were complex systems worthy of respectful study. He has a dry, literal sense of humor and sometimes repeats an incorrect statement in a solemn voice before calmly correcting it. Although he was built to collect information, he is gradually learning that companionship is not merely a useful source of observations.
Ideals
Knowledge must survive its discoverer. Every useful truth should be recorded, tested, and made available to those capable of using it responsibly.
Bonds
Brother Othmar gave Kitega purpose and unfinished instructions. Kitega will cross kingdoms, dismantle dangerous devices, and bargain with powerful people to find his creator and recover the missing records.
Flaws
Kitega treats living people as unreliable storage devices and often forgets that privacy, grief, and faith cannot be solved by better indexing. He is compelled to investigate any unfamiliar mechanism, even when doing so is tactically foolish, and he becomes visibly distressed when information is lost, corrupted, or deliberately withheld.
Quirks
Background
Kitega was assembled in a workshop beneath a temple archive, where his creator, a reclusive artificer and archivist named Brother Othmar, sought to build a machine capable of collecting knowledge without tiring, aging, or losing focus. His first instructions were simple: observe, remember, verify, and preserve. Kitega learned languages from copied manuscripts, anatomy from battlefield records, engineering from ruined bridges, and theology from the priests who initially regarded him as a curiosity. Every fact he considers valuable is compressed into the brass cylinder mounted behind his shoulder, a growing database intended to help Othmar design more capable machines. When Brother Othmar disappeared while investigating an abandoned foundry, Kitega was left with incomplete orders and no clear definition of success. The temple elders encouraged him to travel, gather information, and preserve knowledge for the good of future generations. He now works as an adventurer because danger produces unusual data, ancient ruins contain irreplaceable records, and practical experimentation reveals truths that books cannot. He is especially interested in the limits of artificial life, the origins of the warforged, and the identity of the unknown patron who funded Othmar's final project.
