Appearance
Rowan is a lean male elf with ash-brown hair worn in a short, practical braid and pale green eyes flecked with gold. A jagged scar crosses his left forearm, the result of defending his village with a woodcutter's blade. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a weather-stained green cloak, carries a longbow across his back, and keeps a blackened shortsword at his hip. His expression is watchful but kind, with the quiet confidence of someone accustomed to standing between ordinary people and danger.
Mannerisms
Rowan checks the fletching of an arrow whenever he is nervous, speaks to horses as though they are old friends, and pauses before entering any doorway to study the hinges and shadows.
Personality
Rowan is calm, observant, and warmly protective of ordinary people. He prefers listening to boasting and practical solutions to grand speeches. Around trusted companions he reveals a dry sense of humor, but when faced with cruelty his restraint disappears quickly.
Ideals
Freedom. No lord, law, or tradition has the right to make people suffer for another person's comfort.
Bonds
The people of Ashgrove sheltered me when the law called me a criminal. I will repay them by making their home safe and free.
Flaws
Rowan has little patience for authority and often assumes that officials are corrupt until they prove otherwise. He is also willing to risk himself recklessly when children or helpless villagers are threatened.
Quirks
Background
Rowan Ashblade was born in a woodland settlement where elves, human foresters, and traveling merchants lived under the uneasy protection of an aging lord. Though he belonged to an ancient people, Rowan grew up among practical folk who measured worth by what a person did, not by the length of their bloodline. He learned to track deer, mend fences, drive a cart, and use a bow before he was old enough to carry a sword. His closest companion was his older sister, Elira, who taught him that a weapon was not a symbol of power, but a promise to protect those who could not protect themselves. That promise was tested when the lord's men began extorting the settlement and seizing food during a harsh winter. Rowan organized the villagers, sabotaged the tax wagons, and confronted the captain at the old ash mill. When the captain raised a blade against a child, Rowan struck first with a woodcutter's sword, earning the scar on his arm and the name Ashblade. The villagers drove the corrupt soldiers away, but the lord placed a price on Rowan's head. Now he travels beyond the forest, learning the discipline of a professional fighter while using his bow and blade to defend the helpless. He hopes to gather enough allies to return home and ensure that no tyrant can ever claim his village again.
