Appearance
A lean, weathered human man with close-cropped iron-gray hair, a narrow face, and steady hazel eyes. He wears layered scholar's robes beneath a practical traveling coat, both repeatedly repaired at the cuffs and elbows. A dark blue wool scarf is wrapped tightly around his neck in every season, its left end worn smooth from years of nervous rubbing. His brass spectacles are held together at the bridge with a tiny silver wire, and his spellbook is bound in faded green leather, its corners polished bright by constant handling.
Mannerisms
He rubs the worn end of his scarf whenever he is thinking, taps the butt of his staff three times before beginning a spell, and silently mouths the final word of any sentence he considers imprecise.
Personality
Quietly intense and unfailingly observant, Bektash treats conversation as an exchange of evidence. He is patient with sincere questions, unexpectedly gentle with apprentices, and visibly uncomfortable with praise. He prefers a well-maintained archive to a comfortable room, and he will happily spend an entire night proving that a supposedly ancient inscription was forged last century.
Ideals
Knowledge should be made useful. A fact locked in one person's mind is a possession, but a fact carefully taught can become a shield for an entire community.
Bonds
I guard the surviving pages of the Qorun Archive, a collection of research destroyed by a vindictive noble patron. I will restore it, even if doing so requires recovering every scattered fragment from dangerous places.
Flaws
I am so certain that every problem has an underlying pattern that I can overlook grief, instinct, and simple human error. I also have little patience for people who refuse to learn, and my corrections often sound like insults even when I mean to help.
Quirks
Background
Bektash Qorun was born in a river-market town where human traders, scribes, and caravan guards shared the same crowded streets. His mother copied legal contracts, his father repaired astrolabes, and Bektash learned early that knowledge was both a craft and a form of protection. A failed apprenticeship in practical engineering led him instead to the study of arcane formulae, where his talent for recognizing hidden structures made him a brilliant, if argumentative, student. He spent decades in libraries and ruined observatories, reconstructing fragments of lost magical traditions from damaged tablets and half-burned catalogues.
