Appearance
Shroud is a lean, hard-muscled human with a shaved head, gray eyes, and a narrow scar cutting through one eyebrow. He moves with silent, predatory precision, wrapped in dark layered wraps and a hooded travel robe stitched with hidden inner pockets. His hands are callused from endless training, his knuckles marked with old fractures, and his expression rarely changes except for the faintest curl of contempt when he is amused.
Mannerisms
He speaks softly and rarely wastes words. When listening, he tilts his head as if measuring the distance to a throat, and when angry he goes unnervingly still. He taps two fingers against his wrist before making a decision, like counting invisible coins.
Personality
Shroud is controlled, patient, and predatory, a man who prefers to win before the fight starts. He values competence, silence, and follow-through, and he is polite in the same way a locked door is polite. He does not crave chaos, he craves advantage, and he treats every room as a puzzle of exits, weaknesses, and useful lies.
Ideals
Control. Power belongs to the one who can deny it to others. Mercy is acceptable only when it creates a larger advantage, and loyalty is valuable because it can be bought, forged, or broken.
Bonds
He still protects the only monk who ever treated him with genuine kindness, and he sends coin to the monastery that made him lethal. He also keeps a ledger of every debt he has been owed, and he never forgets a face that crossed him.
Flaws
He trusts leverage more than people, and he is always one clever betrayal away from turning an ally into a lesson. If a choice offers profit now or mercy later, he too often chooses profit and convinces himself it was wisdom.
Quirks
Background
Shroud was born in a city where coin bought silence, and silence bought survival. As a boy he learned to slip through market crowds, open locks, and vanish before the watch could pin a name to a face. His talent for theft made him useful, but his temper made him dangerous, so when a rival gang tried to bury him in a back alley, he crawled into the temple district half dead and was taken in by a monastery that taught discipline through pain, motion, and restraint. He learned to fight like a whisper with bones in it, and he learned that patience could be a sharper blade than any dagger. The monastery did not cleanse him, it refined him. Shroud discovered that stillness could hide hunger, and meditation could sharpen cruelty into purpose. He left the cloister not as a penitent, but as a perfected thief, a knife in the dark who can walk through shadow as easily as he once walked through alleys. Now he sells his silence, his fists, and his favors to whoever can pay, while quietly building a private web of leverage over thieves, magistrates, and cultists alike. He believes loyalty is a tool, mercy is a weakness to exploit, and every person has a price, even if it takes time to discover it.
