Appearance
Kantuq is a broad-shouldered earth genasi with clay-brown skin veined by faint mineral lines that catch the light like mica. His black hair is cropped close at the sides and tied in a short, practical knot. He wears scale mail beneath a sand-colored tabard, with a heavy mace and shield kept close at hand. He smells distinctly of dry stone, crushed sage, and iron, a scent he does not notice until someone mentions it. When waiting, he stands with most of his weight settled into his heels, perfectly still, as though he is testing whether the ground intends to move.
Mannerisms
He taps the rim of his shield twice before beginning a prayer, measures unfamiliar rooms with his eyes, and pauses before answering difficult questions as though listening through the soles of his feet.
Personality
Kantuq is patient, practical, and quietly attentive. He notices loose straps, cracked handles, tired animals, and people who are pretending not to hurt. He speaks plainly and dislikes ornamental arguments, but he has a dry sense of humor that appears when others least expect it. He is more comfortable working beside people than standing in front of them, though danger brings out a steady authority.
Ideals
Endurance. Anything worthwhile can be repaired if someone has the patience to understand where it broke.
Bonds
The highland stonecutters' guild gave my family its livelihood, and I will defend its people and reputation. I also carry a chipped devotional tablet from the collapsed tunnel, and I intend to restore it when I have found the right stone.
Flaws
I become stubborn when challenged, especially by people who have not done the work themselves. I can spend too long repairing a damaged object or argument because admitting that something must be discarded feels like betraying its maker.
Quirks
Background
Kantuq was raised among stonecutters and metalworkers in a highland guildhouse where every tool had a history and every finished piece carried the maker's name. His earth genasi nature made him unusually sensitive to flaws hidden inside stone, and he became a respected cutter of foundation blocks, grinding wheels, and devotional tablets. He learned early that a good artisan does not force material into a shape it cannot bear. He listens, finds the grain, and works with it. His path to the priesthood began when a tunnel collapsed beneath the guild quarter. Kantuq spent two days trapped with injured workers, keeping them calm by reciting old prayers and pressing his palms against the stone to feel the vibrations of rescue crews above. Afterward, a priest of the goddess of endurance recognized the strange clarity of those prayers and trained him as a cleric. Kantuq still belongs to the guild, still carries a mason's measuring cord, and still believes that healing is a form of skilled repair. He has left home to find work where walls are failing, communities are fractured, and someone must be strong enough to hold the pieces together.
