Appearance
Khragzun is a broad, slate-skinned goliath with a heavy brow, close-cropped black hair, and pale mineral markings across his shoulders and forearms. He wears a patched hide mantle over a badly fitted travel coat, its sleeves repeatedly shortened and re-stitched to fit his powerful arms. His most carefully maintained possession is a small iron seal-ring bearing the mark of his vassal state, polished smooth on the inside from years of nervous handling. A bundle of faded treaty cords hangs from his belt beside his handaxes. He carries himself like a man accustomed to being watched, even when no one is speaking.
Mannerisms
Khragzun listens with his chin lowered and one hand resting over his iron seal-ring. Before making an important decision, he silently counts the treaty cords at his belt. When anger rises, he becomes quieter rather than louder, speaking in short, precise sentences until the final word lands like a blow.
Personality
Khragzun is blunt, observant, and difficult to impress. He treats every stranger as a possible envoy, spy, hostage, or future ally, often all four at once. Despite his intimidating presence, he is unusually attentive to practical needs. He notices who has eaten, whose boots are failing, and which guard is pretending not to be tired. He dislikes ceremony but understands power, and he can move from rough campfire humor to cold diplomatic calculation without warning.
Ideals
Freedom. A ruler's first duty is to ensure that no distant throne can casually spend his people's lives. Laws that protect the weak deserve respect, but authority that demands obedience without responsibility deserves defiance.
Bonds
The mountain communities that once accepted his rule are still his responsibility. He will risk almost anything to prevent his former subjects from becoming hostages, slaves, or political currency.
Flaws
He cannot resist turning a negotiation into a contest of dominance, even when patience would save lives. He is suspicious of charity, quick to interpret kindness as an attempt to gain leverage, and secretly terrified that his people remember him as the ruler who abandoned them.
Quirks
Background
Khragzun was born among a highland goliath clan that served as the ruling house of a narrow mountain vassal state. His people were expected to be strong enough to defend the passes, practical enough to survive lean seasons, and obedient enough to pay tribute to the distant crown that claimed their allegiance. When his elder brother died during a winter border campaign, Khragzun inherited the stone hall, the tribute ledgers, and the obligation to smile while stronger powers treated his homeland as a convenient buffer. He ruled for twelve years, keeping his state alive through hard bargains, carefully measured defiance, and long journeys across territory that no court map recorded correctly. Eventually, a foreign governor demanded that Khragzun surrender hostages from his own clan. Khragzun refused, shattered the governor's ceremonial standard with his bare hands, and led his people into the high country before the soldiers could close the passes. He now travels as an exile-ruler, gathering information, allies, and debts. His rage is not mindless fury. It is the refusal to let anyone else decide what his people are worth.
