Appearance

Jake is a slender, sharp-featured drow elf with ash-gray skin, swept-back white hair, and unnervingly calm violet eyes. Fine black tattoos resembling infernal script wind from his left wrist to his throat. He dresses in dark leather armor beneath the vestments of a disgraced temple acolyte, carrying a silver holy symbol blackened by fire and an iron-bound occult book. His movements are graceful and controlled, but his smile is always slightly too deliberate.

Mannerisms

Jake speaks softly even when issuing threats, pauses to straighten nearby objects, and addresses strangers with formal religious titles. When considering a bargain, he touches the blackened holy symbol at his throat and recites a fragment of scripture under his breath.

Personality

Jake is patient, articulate, and unfailingly polite, even while threatening someone. He prefers contracts, leverage, and carefully arranged consequences to open violence. He enjoys theological debate because it lets him test how easily people surrender their principles under pressure.

Ideals

Order. Every soul has a proper place, every debt must be paid, and every act of mercy creates a weakness that someone else will exploit.

Bonds

The temple that raised him still holds a forbidden reliquary containing the true name of his patron. Jake will destroy kingdoms, betray allies, and descend into the deepest hells to claim it before anyone else can use it.

Flaws

Jake cannot tolerate disobedience, especially when it comes from someone weaker or less educated than himself. He mistakes fear for respect and views genuine compassion as either manipulation or stupidity. Deep down, he is terrified that his patron does not consider him special at all, only useful.

Quirks

Keeps a written tally of every favor owed to him.
Refers to his fiendish patron as 'the Most Patient Witness.'
Never steps over a line of salt without first disturbing it with his boot.
Collects fragments of broken holy symbols from defeated temples.

Background

Jake was raised among a secluded congregation that claimed to preserve the last true teachings of an ancient god of judgment. As an acolyte, he learned scripture, ritual law, and the subtle art of making frightened people obey. The temple elders praised his discipline, but feared the cold precision with which he interpreted their commandments. Jake did not merely believe that order was necessary. He believed that mercy was a flaw in the architecture of the world. His transformation began when he discovered a sealed prayer hidden beneath the temple altar. The prayer was not addressed to any god known to the congregation, but to an archdevil who answered in a voice that seemed to come from inside Jake's own skull. The bargain offered forbidden power in exchange for obedience, and Jake accepted without hesitation. He now serves a fiendish patron while maintaining the outward habits of a pious acolyte. He gathers secrets, manipulates religious institutions, and quietly eliminates those who threaten the order he intends to impose upon the world. To Jake, damnation is not a punishment. It is a promotion.
