Appearance
Gunter is a broad-shouldered dwarf with a thick russet beard braided with small iron rings. His weathered face is marked by a pale scar across his left eyebrow, and his dark eyes have the steady, assessing look of a master smith judging a flawed blade. He wears a soot-darkened leather apron over sturdy traveling clothes, reinforced boots, and a battered shield bearing the emblem of his former guild. His hands are heavily calloused, with several fingertips permanently stained by charcoal and metal dust.
Mannerisms
Gunter constantly rubs his thumb across the edge of his shield as if checking its balance. When thinking, he taps metal objects in a slow rhythm and mutters measurements under his breath. He laughs explosively at his own jokes, usually several seconds after telling them.
Personality
Gruff, direct, and fiercely dependable. Gunter has little patience for empty boasts, but he respects anyone who works hard and stands by their companions. He is surprisingly gentle with damaged tools, injured animals, and inexperienced apprentices. In battle, he becomes loud, fearless, and almost cheerful, treating every foe as a poorly made obstacle that needs breaking.
Ideals
Craftsmanship. Anything worth making is worth making well, and a person's true worth is shown by what they build and protect.
Bonds
The Stonehand Smiths' Guild cast me out, but it is still my home. I will protect its honest members and one day return with a work worthy of my ancestors.
Flaws
I take any criticism of my craftsmanship as a personal insult, and my temper often speaks before my judgment can catch up.

Background
Gunter was born beneath the mountain in a forge-house where every child learned to respect fire before learning to read. His clan specialized in making tools and weapons for miners, guards, and caravans, and Gunter showed an instinctive talent for shaping metal. He was not the most patient apprentice, but he possessed unusual strength and a fierce determination to finish every piece he began. His pride was wounded only once, when a celebrated guild master claimed credit for a shield Gunter had designed to save miners from falling stone. Rather than submit quietly, Gunter challenged the master publicly and lost his place in the guild. The dispute left him angry, embarrassed, and determined to prove that craftsmanship is measured by what a creation protects, not by who signs their name to it. He now travels as a sellsword and caravan guard, using his smithing skills to repair weapons and armor wherever he goes. Beneath his temper lies a strong desire to restore his family honor and eventually return to the guild with a masterpiece no one can deny belongs to him.
