Appearance
Ben is a tall, weathered warforged built from dark ironwood, blackened steel, and barnacle-scarred bronze. Their body is etched with faded insignia from a forgotten titan war, and seawater constantly beads across their joints even when they are far from the coast. Ben wears layered shark-skin clothing over salvaged military plating, with a ragged sea-green cloak and a belt hung with shells, rusted medals, and lengths of fishing line. Their featureless face bears one narrow lens of cold blue light, which darkens to abyssal violet when they invoke their patron. They carry a heavy trident wrapped in living shadow.
Mannerisms
Ben stands perfectly still when listening, like a statue waiting for orders. They salute ships, corpses, and large waves. Before combat, they recite the names of drowned units in a flat voice, then lower their trident and wait for the first command.
Personality
Ben is quiet, literal, and intensely observant. They treat every conversation as a military briefing and every promise as an operational commitment. Although they appear emotionless, they possess a deep and carefully concealed tenderness toward sailors, soldiers, and anyone lost at sea. Ben does not understand humor unless it is explained, but they have begun collecting jokes from taverns and classifying them as either tactically useful or strategically confusing.
Ideals
Duty. The individual is temporary, but the command survives. Ben believes that discipline gives suffering meaning, even when the order comes from an unworthy commander.
Bonds
Ben is bound to the drowned soldiers who followed their command. They will recover the lost standard of their army, even if it lies in the lair of a sea god, and they will never knowingly abandon a comrade to the waves.
Flaws
Ben obeys clearly stated orders even when those orders are cruel, dangerous, or morally indefensible. They are terrified that free will is only a malfunction in their command protocols, and they will go to terrible lengths to avoid confronting that possibility.
Quirks
Background
Ben was once a commander in a war fought by titans beneath a sky split by fire. Their army marched across drowned continents, following orders issued by beings so immense that their footsteps became earthquakes. During the final battle, Ben's vessel was dragged beneath the waves by the corpse of a sea titan. The commander sank with their troops, their trident clutched in one hand and the last order of their dying general still repeating through their damaged memory core. Centuries later, fishermen found Ben tangled in their nets, coated in coral and shark teeth. The warforged rose from the deck without explanation and began wearing the skin of the great shark that had guarded their resting place. In the depths, something hungry had noticed Ben's persistence. A thalassic intelligence without a name offered power in exchange for obedience, promising that the sea would reveal the orders Ben had forgotten. Now Ben serves as a warlock and soldier once more, carrying out commands with mechanical precision. Their shadow-cloaked trident kills without hesitation, while the abyssal patron slowly teaches them that every army, every empire, and every living thing is merely food waiting for the tide.
