Appearance

Malice is a lean, long-limbed drow woman with ash-gray skin, white hair cut to her jaw, and pale red eyes that seem almost black in torchlight. Fine scars cross her knuckles and throat, each one earned during a lesson in obedience. She wears black chain mail beneath layered crimson, violet, and spider-silk robes, with a lacquered shoulder guard shaped like a widow spider. Her curved scimitar is plain and workmanlike, its grip wrapped in dark leather and its sheath marked with tiny devotional cuts.

Mannerisms

Malice keeps her chin slightly lowered, as though listening to a spider on the ceiling. Before drawing her blade, she touches two fingers to her holy symbol. She pauses after making a threat, allowing silence to do the intimidating work.

Personality

Malice is quiet, observant, and intensely disciplined. She speaks with the careful economy of someone raised among political predators, but her calm is not gentleness. She studies people as targets, servants, or possible sacrifices. She has a surprisingly dry sense of humor and shows genuine patience toward spiders, injured animals, and anyone who understands the value of following a well-made plan.

Ideals

Purpose. A blade does not choose what it cuts. It exists to serve the hand that wields it, and I exist to serve Lolth.

Bonds

Lolth is my mother, my sovereign, and the only power worthy of my complete devotion. I will destroy anyone who mocks her, weakens her church, or tries to restore me to the identity of Aurelia Travra.

Flaws

I cannot tolerate being treated as a person when being a weapon would be simpler. I mistake cruelty for clarity, assume every kindness hides a hook, and will obey what I believe is Lolth's will even when doing so endangers allies or ruins a practical plan.

Quirks

Names individual spiders she encounters and leaves crumbs for them near camp.
Cuts a tiny notch into her scabbard after every successful mission.
Refuses to step on webs, even abandoned ones.
Keeps her former name written on a scrap of parchment that she never allows anyone to see.

Background

Malice was born Aurelia Travra, a daughter of House Travra in Menzoberranzan. From her first breath, the priestesses measured her hands for holy symbols and her voice for the recitation of blasphemies against every god but Lolth. She was trained to kneel correctly, speak only when permitted, and understand that affection was merely another instrument of control. Yet Malice proved better with a blade than with a sermon. She learned to read the movements of a body as easily as she read temple script, and she discovered that a hidden knife could accomplish what a public denunciation could not. During a trial meant to test her devotion, Malice was sent alone into a shrine webbed from floor to ceiling. The spiders did not attack. Instead, they crawled over her skin and gathered around the blade she carried. She understood the sign as a divine summons. She cut away the name Aurelia, abandoned House Travra, and returned as Malice, a weapon chosen by the Spider Queen. She now travels as Lolth's blade and self-appointed general, perfecting the Way of the Black Widow, a cruel imitation of surface samurai discipline that prizes patience, deception, poisoned steel, sudden violence, and victory over honor. She does not resent being treated as a tool. A tool has purpose, and purpose is the closest thing she has ever found to love.
