Appearance
William is a tall, lean elf with weathered bronze skin, silver-blond hair worn in a loose braid, and bright green eyes marked by years of study and sleepless vigilance. He wears battered chain mail beneath a moss-green clerical cloak, with a wooden holy symbol of a radiant sun hanging at his throat. His hands are stained with herbs, ink, and old traces of battlefield ash.
Mannerisms
William pauses before answering difficult questions, as though listening for a distant heartbeat. He cleans his holy symbol whenever he is worried, speaks to injured animals in an almost formal tone, and quietly counts his breaths while preparing spells.
Personality
William is patient, observant, and quietly compassionate. He prefers tending wounds to delivering sermons, but his gentle voice hides an iron determination. He distrusts institutions that demand obedience without mercy, and he often treats strangers with more kindness than he shows himself.
Ideals
Life is sacred, but freedom gives life meaning. No law, doctrine, or tradition is more important than protecting the innocent and allowing people to choose their own path.
Bonds
The ruined forest shrine where William was raised still contains the names of those who died defending it. He has sworn to restore it and protect the surviving sacred spring.
Flaws
William can become recklessly defiant when he believes an authority figure is endangering innocent life. He also has difficulty accepting that some deaths cannot be prevented, and may exhaust himself trying to save someone who has already chosen a hopeless path.

Background
William was born beneath the boughs of an ancient elven forest, where his family served as keepers of a secluded shrine. Although he possessed little natural charm and was never gifted with prophetic insight, he showed an unusual patience with the sick and wounded. He learned the names of healing plants before he could properly read, and he spent long evenings copying old prayers by candlelight. When raiders burned the shrine and poisoned the surrounding springs, William took up a mace and shield, believing that a healer who refused to stand against cruelty was only half a healer. His pilgrimage eventually brought him to a lonely mountain hermitage, where he studied the relationship between divine power and the living world. Years of solitude gave him a revelation. The gods do not always answer through thunder or visions. Sometimes their will appears as a stubborn seed breaking through stone, a dying stranger taking one more breath, or a frightened child finding the courage to rise. William returned to the wider world as a cleric of the Life Domain, determined to protect life wherever he finds it, even when doing so requires defying laws, temples, kings, or occasionally his own companions.
