Features
14 featuresAction
- Eyes of the GraveLevel 1
As an action, Eldoc can determine whether a creature he can see within 60 feet is at its hit point maximum, is not at its hit point maximum but is above 0 hit points, or is at 0 hit points. He can use this feature a number of times equal to his Wisdom modifier, and regains all expended uses after a long rest.
Always on
- Spare the Dying
When A creature Eldoc can touch is at 0 hit points.
Eldoc places a hand over a dying creature's heart and invokes the stillness between seed and sprout. The creature's next death saving throw before the start of Eldoc's next turn is made with advantage.
- Toll the Dead
When A creature within 60 feet that Eldoc can see is missing hit points.
Eldoc causes the sound of a tolling funeral bell to gather around a creature he can see within 60 feet. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw or take 1d8 necrotic damage, or 1d12 if it is missing any hit points.
- Thaumaturgy
When Eldoc chooses an effect within the spell's limits.
Eldoc creates a harmless sensory sign of divine authority, such as the scent of cut grass, a faint ringing bell, a flickering flame, or a whispering prayer.
- SpellcastingLevel 1
Eldoc is a spellcaster who uses Wisdom as his spellcasting ability. He can prepare a number of cleric spells equal to his Wisdom modifier plus his cleric level. He can use a holy symbol as a spellcasting focus.
- Hit DiceLevel 1
Eldoc can use a d8 as a Hit Die when determining hit points.
- Cleric ProficienciesLevel 1
Eldoc gains proficiency with light armor, medium armor, shields, and all simple weapons.
- Divine DomainLevel 1
Eldoc has chosen the Grave Domain. His domain spells are always prepared and do not count against the number of cleric spells he can prepare. He has access to bane and false life as domain spells at cleric level 1.
- Circle of MortalityLevel 1
When Eldoc casts a spell that restores hit points to a creature currently at 0 hit points, he can treat any die rolled to determine the healing as having rolled its maximum value. This feature does not affect undead or constructs.
- Deathless NatureRebornEldoc has resistance to poison damage, advantage on saving throws against disease, and does not need to eat, drink, or breathe. He is not required to sleep and magic cannot put him to sleep. He can finish a long rest in 4 hours while remaining conscious and motionless.
- Knowledge from a Past LifeRebornWhen Eldoc makes an ability check using a skill or tool, he can roll a d6 and add the number rolled to the check. He can use this feature after seeing the d20 roll, but before the outcome is determined. He can use it a number of times equal to his proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses after a long rest.

Appearance
Eldoc is a broad-shouldered, weathered man with the heavy hands of a village laborer and the deliberate posture of a priest at the altar. His skin has the muted, dry pallor of someone who has spent too long beneath the earth, but it is not corpse-like at a glance. Fine brown soil remains permanently lodged beneath his nails, no matter how often he washes them. His dark hair is cropped unevenly, and a short beard has begun to grow in with streaks of pale gray. He speaks in a low, measured voice that seems to come from slightly too far away. When frightened or enraged, his breathing stops entirely for several heartbeats, then resumes in a dry, rattling pull. He favors his left leg when walking, not from an injury, but as though he is still learning how much weight the living world will bear. He wears a faded green prayer sash beneath his armor, embroidered with wheat, roots, and a rising harvest moon.
Mannerisms
Eldoc pauses before entering any room, quietly counting the exits and the living occupants. He touches his wooden holy symbol whenever someone mentions hunger, burial, or mothers. Before casting a healing spell, he whispers a blessing as though placing a seed in soil.
Personality
Eldoc is patient with the hungry, the frightened, and the ashamed. He speaks to strangers as though they are already part of his congregation, offering practical help before asking questions. He has a dry, understated sense of humor and is oddly comfortable discussing death, but becomes quiet and intensely focused whenever anyone describes a hanging, a raid, or a village abandoned to the mists.
Ideals
Life must be defended when it is vulnerable. The harvest belongs first to those who planted, tended, and need it, not to those strong enough to seize it.
Bonds
The names of his murdered villagers are carved into the wooden handle of his mace. He believes his return has meaning, and he will not rest until he knows whether the Earthmother sent him back or whether something else answered his prayer.
Flaws
Eldoc cannot forgive people who stand by while others suffer. He is quick to judge hesitation as cowardice, and when grief overtakes him he can become frighteningly certain that mercy is merely another form of surrender.
Quirks
Background
Eldoc served as a village cleric of the Earthmother, a harvest goddess whose faithful believed that every seed was a promise and every grave was a field awaiting its season. He tended sick animals, settled disputes over irrigation, blessed the first loaves of autumn, and kept the names of the dead carved into the lintel of the village granary. He was not a warrior, but when raiders came to seize the winter stores and drag away the village women, Eldoc stood between them and his people. They beat him, bound him, and dragged him through the streets while the villagers watched. At the edge of the settlement, beneath ancient oak trees, they hanged him as a warning. He was buried in a shallow grave before dawn. On the night of the harvest moon, his fingers broke through the soil. Eldoc rose without a heartbeat, gave thanks to the Earthmother in a voice clogged with dirt, and followed the raiders' trail. He found them before sunrise and unleashed a fury that frightened even him. When the last raider fell, the mists gathered across the fields and carried him away. He awoke in the Domains of Dread, alive in the technical sense and dead in several others. Now he wanders from realm to realm, trying to learn why the goddess returned him, whether his resurrection was a blessing or a punishment, and how many people he can protect before the mists claim them too.
