Appearance
Nissa is a lithe forest gnome with sun-bronzed skin and hair the color of burnished copper. Her locks are usually tangled with pine needles and small blossoms, tied back loosely with a leather cord. She wears deep green traveling clothes layered under light animal hides, and she always carries the faint scent of damp earth and crushed herbs. Her bright green eyes are constantly moving, as if tracking the flight of insects or the sway of distant branches.
Mannerisms
Nissa tilts her head sharply to the side when she is listening to someone, much like a curious bird. She taps her wooden staff in a specific three-beat rhythm when she is lost in thought.
Personality
Nissa is remarkably patient and observant, often finding more to say to the trees than to her traveling companions. She is bluntly honest, believing that the natural world has no need for masks and therefore neither does she. She speaks with a soft but firm conviction, and while she is gentle with life, she can be as cold as a winter frost to those who disrespect the balance of nature.
Ideals
The Natural Balance is the only truth. Life and death are two halves of the same circle, and it is my duty to ensure neither side grows too strong.
Bonds
I carry a single dried leaf from the Great Oak of my grove. It represents my home and my solemn promise to heal it from the blight.
Flaws
I am profoundly uncomfortable in large stone buildings and become highly claustrophobic if I cannot see the open sky for more than a few hours.
Quirks
Background
Nissa Turen spent her early decades in the shadowed thickets of the Deep Emerald Grove. While other forest gnomes occupied themselves with whimsical illusions and small clockwork gadgets, Nissa found a deeper connection in the pulse of the earth. She was raised by the circle of elders to listen to the whispers of the wind and the warnings of the squirrels. To her, the forest is not just a place, it is a living entity with a complex and fragile history that demands protection. She lived a nomadic life on the fringes of the gnome settlements, acting as a guide and a scout for her people. However, when a strange and necrotic blight began to wither the roots of the oldest trees, she knew her isolation had to end. The natural order was tilting toward decay, and she could feel the earth crying out in a language she could only partially translate. With a pack full of herbal tinctures and a heart heavy with the weight of her duty, Nissa stepped out of the woods for the first time. She seeks a way to purge the rot from her home, believing that the answers lie in the world beyond the canopy. She views cities as stone cages and looks upon civilization with a mixture of pity and caution, fearing that those who live within walls have forgotten the ground that sustains them.
