  • Quickened Spell

When Before casting a spell with a casting time of 1 Action

As a Bonus Action, Plipli spends 2 Sorcery Points to cast a Sorcerer spell that normally takes an Action as a Bonus Action.

  • Innate SorceryLevel 1

You can unleash an inner surge of magic for 1 minute. While active, your Sorcerer spells have Advantage on one damage roll, and once during each of your turns you can use a Bonus Action to cause one spell you cast that turn to have no Verbal component. You can activate this feature twice per Long Rest.

  • MetamagicLevel 2

You gain two Metamagic options. Plipli knows Quickened Spell and Subtle Spell. Quickened Spell changes a spell with a casting time of an Action to a Bonus Action by spending 2 Sorcery Points. Subtle Spell removes the Verbal and Somatic components of a spell by spending 1 Sorcery Point.

Reaction

Appearance

Plipli is a lean, charcoal-scaled black dragonborn with faint violet highlights between his scales and pale silver eyes that seem to dim in bright light. He stands very still when listening, taking up less space than his broad, swept-back horns suggest, but his long tail constantly traces nervous half-circles behind him. His claws are stained with ink from years of copying prayers and warding symbols. He dresses in clean but plainly repaired acolyte vestments beneath a dark traveling coat, and carries a polished obsidian pendant that he refuses to explain.

Mannerisms

Plipli pauses before answering ordinary questions, as if checking whether his first response came from him or from somewhere else. He counts doorways under his breath, lowers his voice in bright rooms, and instinctively positions himself where his shadow falls across the feet of anyone he is speaking to.

Personality

Plipli is unfailingly polite, practical, and eager to help with mundane tasks. He repairs loose hinges, washes temple cups, and asks strangers whether they have eaten before asking their names. He genuinely wants a normal life, but his idea of normal includes checking every room for hidden portals and sleeping with a warding circle drawn beneath his bedroll.

Ideals

Redemption. A person is not defined by the worst secret they have carried, but by what they do after learning the truth.

Bonds

He carries the obsidian prayer pendant of the temple that gave him a second chance. He will protect that temple and its people, even if doing so forces him to face the shadow court again.

Flaws

He lies by omission whenever the Shadow Realm comes up, even with people who have earned his trust. He is also convinced that any period of peace is merely the silence before a consequence arrives.

Quirks

He gives every candle a name before extinguishing it.
He keeps a written list of ordinary pleasures, including fresh bread, clean laundry, and uneventful mornings.
He refuses to step through a doorway without briefly touching the frame.
He becomes visibly offended when anyone calls the Shadow Realm evil in simplistic terms.
He occasionally wakes speaking in an unknown language and immediately pretends nothing happened.

Background

Plipli was raised in a quiet temple where the priests taught that every soul cast a shadow, and that wisdom came from understanding what the shadow concealed. His talent for magic appeared during a nighttime vigil, when the temple lamps went out and a pool of darkness gathered around his hands. The darkness spoke in memories that were not his own. Before long, agents from the Shadowfell found him, offering forbidden lessons and promising that his strange gift could become a doorway rather than a curse. He followed them into the Shadow Realm and spent several years helping with secret bargains, memory thefts, and rituals whose true purposes were hidden even from him. When he finally learned that one of those rituals would condemn an innocent village to eternal gloom, Plipli sabotaged it. The act saved the village but exposed his involvement in everything that came before. The shadow court banished him, stripping away his name among them and casting him back into the mortal world. Now he serves as an acolyte, keeps regular hours, pays for what he breaks, and tries very hard to live an ordinary life. Unfortunately, the darkness still answers when he calls, and some nights something on the other side calls back.
