Appearance
Tyumi is a broad-shouldered male orc with slate-gray skin, a broken lower tusk, and a long black braid threaded with copper rings taken from fallen officers. His left cheek bears three shallow scars from a battlefield punishment. He wears a battered soldier's coat beneath dark wizardly robes, both altered to fit his powerful frame. His spellbook is bound in treated hide and secured with an iron clasp stamped with the insignia of a defunct military regiment.
Mannerisms
Tyumi stands rigidly at attention whenever someone important enters a room. He taps the butt of his quarterstaff three times before casting a spell, as if giving an order to invisible troops. He addresses strangers by rank whenever possible, and pauses before answering questions so others mistake calculation for wisdom.
Personality
Tyumi is disciplined, observant, and relentlessly ambitious. He speaks in the clipped language of military reports, rarely wastes movement, and evaluates every person he meets by usefulness, loyalty, and threat. He is patient when patience serves him, ruthless when cruelty is efficient, and genuinely fascinated by arcane theory despite pretending that magic is merely another weapon.
Ideals
Order. The world belongs to those who can impose discipline upon it. Freedom is merely the name weak people give to the absence of a master.
Bonds
The surviving members of Tyumi's old arcane auxiliary are the closest thing he has to family. He intends to find them, recruit them, and rebuild the regiment under his command. He also keeps the burned spellbook that began his education, despite knowing that its former owner may have been murdered for possessing it.
Flaws
Tyumi cannot tolerate being treated as unintelligent, and he responds to even mild condescension with calculated cruelty. He believes obedience is more reliable than friendship, so he manipulates allies before they have the chance to betray him. When confronted with a problem he cannot solve, he becomes reckless rather than admit ignorance.
Quirks
Background
Tyumi was born into an orc warband that measured worth in broken shields and conquered ground. He was strong enough to survive the first charge, but not clever enough to satisfy the officers who expected him to become a simple weapon. During a winter campaign, Tyumi found a dead battlefield arcanist clutching a half-burned spellbook. Instead of selling it or using it as kindling, he taught himself to read the diagrams one symbol at a time. His first successful spell was a flash of fire that killed an enemy scout and singed his own eyebrows. The officers saw potential in him, and Tyumi was transferred into the regiment's arcane auxiliaries. Military discipline gave Tyumi what instinct never had, a structure for ambition. He learned that a well-placed spell could break a formation more efficiently than a hundred axes, and that fear was most useful when carefully administered. He rose to a junior command before a failed siege exposed the corruption of his superiors. Tyumi survived by abandoning the regiment with the unit's spellbooks, official records, and enough gold to start again. Now he travels as a soldier-scholar, offering his magic to causes that advance his position. He has no interest in forgiveness or honor for their own sake. He wants a command of his own, a force that obeys without hesitation, and enough arcane power that no one can ever order him into the front line again.
