Appearance
Bromm Ironroad is a broad-shouldered male dwarf with weathered bronze skin, a square black beard streaked with iron-gray, and a pair of bright hazel eyes that rarely miss a detail. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a dark green traveling cloak, with a polished shield bearing a simple road-marker sigil. His maul is unusually heavy and dark, its head veined with faint blue-gray light like stone under moonlight. A small silver holy symbol hangs beside a collection of handwritten route maps.
Mannerisms
Bromm taps his thumb against the rim of his shield whenever he is thinking. He gives directions using exact distances and landmarks, then repeats the final turn twice to make sure the listener understood. Before entering a dangerous place, he quietly checks the nearest exit and says, 'Know the road home.'
Personality
Bromm is reserved, observant, and unfailingly courteous to strangers. He prefers practical conversation, precise facts, and useful work over small talk. Although he appears stern, he has a quiet tenderness toward lost travelers, frightened children, and anyone trying to find their way home.
Ideals
Protection. A law is worthwhile only when it protects the helpless. The road belongs to everyone, and I will enforce that promise with shield, oath, and hammer.
Bonds
The Old North Road and every traveler who depends on it are under my protection. I will find the source of the undead, destroy it, and return to rebuild the road if necessary.
Flaws
I trust rules and written records more easily than I trust living people. When plans fail, I become rigid and quietly blame myself, even when the failure was unavoidable.
Quirks
Background
Bromm Ironroad spent most of his life alone in a stone cottage beside the Old North Road, a place chosen because travelers were always passing through and because its walls were sturdy enough to withstand the mountain winds. He kept careful records of every road, bridge, ruined watchtower, and abandoned shrine within a hundred miles. Travelers knew him as the dwarf who could point them toward the nearest inn, ford, or safe trail, even in the worst weather. His cottage became an informal waystation, though Bromm rarely invited anyone to stay longer than necessary and never spoke much about the family he had left beneath the mountains. One autumn night, a Dao emerged from the roadside stones and warned Bromm that undead fiends were rising across the region. The genie recognized the dwarf's disciplined mind, stubborn courage, and instinct to protect strangers, then marked him with a fragment of noble elemental power. Bromm's old war maul changed beneath his hands, becoming a pact-bound weapon that manifests as a crushing Dao's Maul when called. Though the gift came with a dangerous obligation, Bromm accepted it without bargaining. He soon realized that maps, warnings, and solitary patrols would not be enough. He traveled into the nearest town, where his knowledge of the roads and his growing reputation led to his recruitment into a special forces team hunting the source of the undead. Bromm now serves as their guide, shield, and relentless executioner, determined to ensure that no traveler disappears on his roads again.
