Appearance
A lean half-elf woman with warm olive skin, dark brown eyes, and straight black hair cut just below the jaw. One pointed ear is decorated with a small brass ring, while the other is usually hidden beneath her hair. Her clothing is practical and scholarly, consisting of a weather-stained blue-gray coat, soft leather boots, and a belt crowded with chalk, folded notes, and tiny glass vials. Her hands are ink-stained, and a faint burn scar crosses two fingers on her left hand.
Mannerisms
Mira pauses before answering difficult questions, silently tracing geometric shapes with one finger against her thumb. When excited, she speaks faster and begins correcting her own wording. She habitually reads inscriptions aloud under her breath, even when she does not recognize the language.
Personality
Quietly observant and intensely curious, Mira prefers precise questions to confident declarations. She is polite with strangers, skeptical of institutions, and unexpectedly protective of anyone whose knowledge is being dismissed. She has a dry sense of humor and considers practical competence more impressive than social charm.
Ideals
Knowledge should be preserved, tested, and shared. No ruler, priest, or scholar has the right to bury the truth simply because it is inconvenient.
Bonds
She carries her vanished mentor's annotated spellbook and will risk herself to recover any missing pages. She also feels responsible for the archive fire that ended her scholarly career.
Flaws
She treats uncertainty as a personal insult and can become reckless when someone suggests that a mystery is beyond her understanding. She also has difficulty abandoning a line of research, even when the danger is obvious.
Quirks
Background
Mira Toth was raised between two worlds in the archive district of a river city. Her human father repaired navigation instruments for merchant vessels, and her elven mother copied old legal texts for a university that preferred her precise handwriting to her company. Mira learned early that both sides of her family considered her slightly misplaced. The scholars thought her too practical, while the sailors thought her habit of asking why everything worked was a kind of illness. She found her place in books, especially damaged manuscripts whose missing passages could be reconstructed through patient comparison. Her talent for magic emerged while she was cataloging a sealed collection of pre-imperial correspondence. A single phrase in an unknown script responded to her touch, igniting the page and leaving a pattern of light suspended above the desk. The resulting fire destroyed part of the archive and embarrassed her master, but it also proved that Mira could shape the principles she had spent years studying. A reclusive wizard took her as an apprentice, teaching her the discipline of spellcraft before disappearing during an expedition to locate a lost observatory. Mira now travels as a reluctant adventurer, seeking evidence of her mentor's fate, recovering knowledge before it is destroyed, and testing whether every mystery truly has an answer.
