Appearance
A tall, broad-shouldered half-elf with warm bronze skin, shoulder-length black hair, and bright green eyes flecked with gold. A thin scar crosses his left eyebrow, and a silver holy symbol hangs over his breastplate. He favors polished chain mail beneath a dark blue surcoat marked with a broken golden sun, and he carries a longsword whose pommel is wrapped in red cord, one strand for each person he has sworn to protect.
Mannerisms
He speaks with calm confidence even during chaos, often cleaning his sword while discussing difficult decisions. Before accepting a dangerous plan, he taps his holy symbol three times and asks who will be protected by it.
Personality
Confident, protective, and disarmingly warm. Caelan assumes responsibility naturally and treats frightened people with genuine patience. He enjoys dry humor, friendly arguments, and proving that a polished knight can still sleep beside a campfire.
Ideals
Protection. The strong are responsible for shielding those who cannot shield themselves, even when doing so costs them comfort, reputation, or life.
Bonds
He will risk everything to protect his younger sister Elira and the former soldiers who stood beside him when his command was disgraced.
Flaws
He is so certain that he can protect everyone that he refuses help until the danger has already become worse. He also has little patience for people who counsel compromise with cruel enemies.
Quirks
Background
Caelan Veyr was raised between two worlds, the disciplined household of his human father and the wandering elven relatives of his mother. He learned early that good intentions meant little without the courage to act. When raiders burned the border village where his family lived, Caelan joined the city watch, then the royal army, believing that order could protect innocent people. His confidence and fierce loyalty made him an effective officer, but his refusal to abandon civilians during a doomed retreat earned him both admiration and disgrace. After leaving the army, Caelan discovered that the raid had been arranged by a noble faction seeking to clear the land for mining. He swore the Oath of Vengeance before a shattered shrine, promising to hunt those responsible and anyone who profited from their crimes. His oath is not rooted in hatred of all enemies. Instead, he believes mercy belongs to the repentant, while those who knowingly prey upon the helpless must be stopped completely. Caelan has recently begun searching for a legendary sentient blade, believing that a weapon with a will of its own may help him confront threats no mortal knight could defeat. He does not yet understand that the blade may demand a price for its aid.
