Appearance
A short, wiry lightfoot halfling with warm brown skin, bright hazel eyes, and unruly auburn hair tied back with colorful ribbons. He wears a well-fitted suit of worn leather armor beneath a burgundy travel coat, decorated with tiny brass guild pins and embroidered musical notes. His rapier is slender and polished, while his lute bears numerous repaired cracks and the initials of several former owners.
Mannerisms
Rollo punctuates conversation with tiny flourishes of his fingers, as if conducting an invisible orchestra. He bows extravagantly after making even minor points, hums while thinking, and addresses difficult negotiations as though they were performances.
Personality
Rollo is quick-witted, theatrical, and relentlessly sociable. He treats strangers as potential friends, audiences, or sources of useful gossip. Beneath his cheerful bravado is a keen observer who notices who is uncomfortable, who is lying, and who needs a kind word.
Ideals
Craftsmanship. Anything made with patience, skill, and heart deserves respect, whether it is a song, a sword, or a simple wooden bowl.
Bonds
He carries his family's repaired lute and will risk himself to protect it or any fellow guild member in danger.
Flaws
He cannot resist humiliating anyone who cheats an artisan, even when discretion would serve him better. His confidence often outruns his preparation, especially when an audience is watching.
Quirks
Background
Rollo Bramblefiddle was born in a bustling halfling quarter where nearly every household made something worth buying, selling, or stealing. His family repaired musical instruments, and Rollo learned early that a well-tuned lute could open more doors than a locked chest could keep shut. He joined the local performers and instrument makers guild as a boy, first as a messenger and later as a traveling musician who composed jingles for merchants, drinking songs for sailors, and flattering ballads for anyone with coin. His comfortable life changed when a wealthy patron refused to pay for a commissioned song and used his influence to have Rollo blamed for a public scandal. The guild protected him from imprisonment, but its leaders advised him to leave town until tempers cooled. Rollo took his battered family lute, a borrowed rapier, and a letter of introduction from the guild. Now he travels as a bard, earning his way through performance, negotiation, and occasional daring. He hopes to restore his reputation, expose the patron's corruption, and eventually return home with enough prestige to make the guild regret ever doubting him.
