Appearance
Maeve is a towering human woman standing six feet tall, built like a veteran siege engine, broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted, and densely muscled from years of disciplined training. Her pale, sun-darkened skin is crossed with silvery battle scars, most notably a thin cut through her left eyebrow and a pale ring around her right wrist. She has a square jaw, high cheekbones, a slightly crooked nose, sharp jade-green eyes, and a wild cropped mane of crimson hair spiked at the crown. She dresses in practical modern fantasy clothing, usually a dark tank top, loose training pants, and no shoes when she can help it. A small silver ring hangs from a leather cord at her throat, her only ornament.
Mannerisms
Maeve stands like she is already on watch, shoulders squared, weight balanced, eyes constantly moving. When she listens, she tilts her head a fraction and studies people as if assessing footwork. She rarely wastes motion, and even at rest she unconsciously sets her hands as if ready to grip a weapon.
Personality
Maeve is severe at first glance, but not cruel. She is direct, tactical, and almost stubbornly responsible, with a dry sense of humor that appears only when she is comfortable. She respects effort, hates waste, and has a soldier's instinct to take the dangerous position herself if it protects the rest of the line.
Ideals
Discipline. Power means nothing unless it can be pointed, measured, and used to protect others. Victory is earned by preparation, restraint, and the courage to stand where others fall back.
Bonds
She keeps the silver ring of her fallen comrade close, and she will not abandon anyone under her protection if she can still stand between them and death.
Flaws
Maeve trusts competence more than kindness, and sometimes mistakes bluntness for honesty. She has little patience for cowardice, bureaucratic nonsense, or people who grandstand instead of working. Her need to control every battlefield can make her overstep, and when someone reminds her of a soldier she could not save, her temper becomes cold enough to cut.
Quirks
Background
Maeve was born into no legend at all, only the ordinary work of hauling water, mending fences, and learning how to survive a hard world with nothing but stubbornness and a quick punch. She grew fast, fought often, and discovered early that people were quicker to fear her than understand her. So she chose discipline over impulse, and the battlefield over the chaos of the street. When the call for soldiers came, she answered with the relief of someone who had finally found a place where strength had rules. Years of service hardened her into something precise. Maeve became the kind of fighter commanders trusted to hold a line, read a field, and break a charge before it broke her. She learned the language of formations, morale, and timing, then turned that knowledge into a private craft of brutally efficient combat. Now she travels as a battle-tested veteran, still carrying herself like a woman in formation even when she sits alone at a low round table with two chairs, boots off, hands wrapped around a mug she does not need. The silver ring at her throat is the only thing she kept from her old unit, a promise made to someone she failed to bring home.
