Appearance
A wiry male elf, 1.73 m tall and about 55 kg, with sepia red-brown skin, long black hair shaved above the ears, and black eyes that stay calm even in battle. He wears a green and yellow monk suit with no armor, a monk's belt, a bangle set with emerald, and a backpack worn for long wandering days. An ornamented sword rests across his back, while a quarterstaff is always close at hand. His posture is disciplined and quiet, with a full-bodied stance that looks as ready for meditation as for combat.
Mannerisms
He bows before speaking, keeps his hands relaxed at his sides, and settles into a calm fighting stance whenever he is thinking. In conversation he often closes his eyes for a heartbeat before answering, as if weighing the discipline behind every word.
Personality
Quiet, patient, and observant, Talaen speaks only after he has considered the shape of the room and the mood of the people in it. He is gentle with children, respectful to veterans, and unsparing with bandits, bullies, and tyrants. His calm is not passivity, it is a practiced form of control.
Ideals
Mercy through strength. A disciplined hand can stop cruelty without becoming cruel itself.
Bonds
He keeps the names of the soldiers who died under his command, and quietly tends the graves he can still find.
Flaws
He measures himself too harshly and assumes every failure is proof that he was not disciplined enough. He is slow to ask for help, because he believes relying on others is a luxury he has not earned.
Quirks
Background
Talaen was born among a secluded elven people who taught that every motion should have purpose, every breath should serve a vow. As a child he was small, fast, and unnervingly calm, more interested in the rhythm of practice than in boasting. When raiders and border wars began to press against his homeland, Talaen volunteered to serve, not out of bloodlust, but because he believed order could protect the innocent better than grief ever could. In the legion he learned drill, endurance, and the hard truth that discipline is most valuable when fear is loudest. He left the army after one campaign too many, carrying both a soldier's training and a monk's hunger for peace. He wandered from shrine to shrine, refining his body into a weapon he hoped never to misuse. The sword on his back is a reminder of the life he might have taken permanently, while the quarterstaff is his preferred companion on the road, simple, honest, and suited to defense. He now travels as a guardian of pilgrims, villages, and lonely roads, trying to prove that a warrior can remain gentle without becoming weak.
