Appearance
Thorak stands tall with a lean, athletic build shaped by years of military drilling. He has tanned skin covered in faint white scars, dark hair kept in a tight military bun, and sharp hazel eyes that never seem to rest. He wears well-maintained leather armor stained with forest moss.
Mannerisms
He frequently scans the horizon and horizon line while speaking, rarely maintaining steady eye contact unless he is trying to intimidate someone.
Personality
He is disciplined, pragmatic, and deeply suspicious of people in high-ranking uniforms. He prefers the quiet efficiency of the wilderness to the chaotic noise of cities. While he seems cold at first, he is the first to stand between a bully and a victim.
Ideals
Freedom. People should be able to live their lives without being stepped on by lords or generals.
Bonds
He carries a pocket watch from his former sergeant who died covering his desertion, a reminder of the cost of his conscience.
Flaws
He is prone to judging people based solely on their rank and often ignores advice from anyone he considers a bureaucrat.
Quirks
Background
Thorak spent a decade as a scout for the royal vanguard, where he mastered the art of survival in enemy territory. His career ended abruptly when he refused an order to burn a village that was allegedly harboring rebels, knowing the inhabitants were mostly innocent farmers. He chose to walk away rather than commit an atrocity, deserting his post and fleeing into the deep woods. He has spent the last few years living as a ghost, guiding travelers safely through dangerous passes and hunting monsters that the local militias are too afraid to face. He views his new role as a ranger not just as a job, but as a way to reclaim the honor he felt he lost while following blind orders. He now uses the very tactics the army taught him to hinder their overreach whenever they threaten the simple folk of the borderlands.
