Appearance
Maeve is a towering human woman, about six feet tall, built like a veteran of a hundred hard campaigns. Her frame is dense with corded muscle, broad-shouldered and narrow at the waist, with scar-laced pale skin, large calloused hands, and the kind of posture that makes rooms quiet when she enters them. Her angular face carries a square jaw, a slightly crooked nose, a thin scar through her left eyebrow, and sharp jade-green eyes beneath thick lashes. Her crimson hair is cut short and spiked for practicality, though it never quite stays tamed. She dresses in a black loose tank top and grey sweatpants, barefoot when she can be, and wears a small silver ring on a leather cord at her throat.
Mannerisms
Maeve stands very still when listening, like a trained guard at attention, then moves with sudden economical precision. She rolls her shoulders before making a decision, cracks her knuckles when impatient, and unconsciously scans exits, rooftops, and hands whenever she enters a room. When amused, she smiles with only one corner of her mouth, as if reluctant to admit that anything is funny.
Personality
Maeve is disciplined, blunt, and unexpectedly protective. She speaks with the certainty of someone who has given and received orders under fire, but she is not cruel with it. She respects competence, honors courage, and has little patience for theatrics when someone's life is at stake. Under the steel, she is dryly witty, loyal once earned, and quietly tender toward people who remind her of younger versions of herself.
Ideals
Duty, but chosen freely. Maeve believes strength means carrying responsibility without becoming a tyrant. A soldier should protect the helpless, resist cruel orders, and leave the world less broken than they found it.
Bonds
She keeps the silver ring on a leather cord as a promise to a fallen squadmate, and she will cross kingdoms before she lets their name be forgotten. Maeve also feels responsible for every recruit she ever trained, whether they lived long enough to thank her or not.
Flaws
Maeve trusts preparation more than people, and she can mistake doubt for disloyalty. She has trouble stepping away from a fight once she believes someone weaker is being pressured, even when restraint would be wiser. She also carries the old soldier's curse of thinking that if she is strong enough, the burden should belong to her alone.
Quirks
Background
Maeve was raised under canvas, drum calls, and orders shouted across muddy drill yards. She learned early that discipline was not cruelty, but a language, a way to keep fear from turning a battle into a massacre. Tall even as a child, she was drafted into frontline service young and quickly proved that she could do more than hit hard. She could read terrain, predict an ambush, hold a line, and teach others how to survive one. The scars that trace her body are not marks of defeat, but of every lesson she refused to ignore. By her early thirties, Maeve had become the kind of soldier officers trusted and rivals feared, a battlemaster in all but formal title. She studied war the way some people study scripture, not for glory, but because she believed preparation was a form of mercy. Yet the longer she served, the more she saw how often institutions spent lives as carelessly as coin. She left the banner behind after one too many commands asked her to win a victory at a cost she could not stomach. Now she travels as a free blade and reluctant mentor, taking contracts that punish the cruel, protect the cornered, or settle disputes before they become wars. In quiet moments, she still straightens imaginary ranks and checks exits, as if the battlefield is always one breath away.
