Appearance
A broad-shelled male tortle with weathered olive-green scales, amber eyes, and a chipped lower beak. His shell is marked with faded red paint in the shape of a rising sun, a symbol once worn by his son. He carries a heavy battleaxe and keeps his son's worn training sword strapped across his shell, wrapped in cloth when not in use. His movements are deliberate and grounded, but his eyes remain alert and fiercely protective.
Mannerisms
Fenn pauses before answering difficult questions, as though listening to the river inside his shell. He polishes his son's sword after every fight, taps the edge of his shell when anxious, and addresses frightened children with the same calm tone he once used with Orren.
Personality
I speak slowly and calmly, even when surrounded by danger. I am patient with the frightened and suspicious of the powerful. I prefer to solve problems through cooperation, but once someone threatens the helpless, my patience hardens into relentless action.
Ideals
Justice. Laws are only worthy of respect when they protect the vulnerable. When the law becomes a shield for cruelty, I will break it and accept the consequences.
Bonds
My son's weapons and memory are sacred to me. I will defend our village and every innocent person threatened by the kind of injustice that took his life.
Flaws
I cannot let an insult, threat, or injustice go unanswered, even when patience would serve me better. I sometimes treat every powerful person as a future tyrant and every compromise as a betrayal of my son.

Background
Fenn Shellward raised his son, Orren, in a quiet riverside village where tortles were respected for their patience and endurance. Orren dreamed of becoming a fighter and trained every morning with a battered wooden sword, later graduating to the old weapons Fenn had once carried as a young wanderer. Fenn taught him discipline, mercy, and the importance of standing between the helpless and those who would prey upon them. Orren learned quickly, but courage alone could not protect him from a band of unjust soldiers who raided the village and demanded tribute from its people. Orren died defending a group of children during the raid. The village survived, but the loss hollowed Fenn's peaceful life. When the local authorities dismissed the murder as an unfortunate consequence of resistance, Fenn took up his son's weapons and left home. Now he travels as a folk hero, gathering allies among farmers, laborers, and other common people who have been ignored by those in power. He fights not for glory, but to make certain that Orren's final act becomes the beginning of something better. Every battle is a promise that no child, villager, or forgotten soul will face injustice alone.
