Appearance
Kephas is a broad-shouldered human man with weathered fair skin, iron-gray eyes, and dark brown hair worn short beneath his helm. A neatly trimmed beard frames a stern but compassionate face. He bears a pale scar across his left eyebrow and wears polished chain mail beneath a white surcoat marked with the blue and gold sigil of his order. His shield is heavily used but meticulously maintained, and a simple iron prayer ring hangs from his right hand.
Mannerisms
Kephas checks every buckle and strap before entering a dangerous place. He touches his iron prayer ring before making a promise, speaks in measured formal sentences, and instinctively positions himself between strangers and potential danger.
Personality
Kephas is disciplined, patient, and quietly protective. He listens carefully before speaking and treats servants, travelers, and children with the same courtesy he offers nobles. Though stern in battle, he is gentle with the frightened and has a dry sense of humor that appears only when everyone else is safe. He prefers practical acts of kindness over grand declarations of virtue.
Ideals
Duty. A just law is a shield for the helpless. I must uphold my vows even when doing so costs me comfort, reputation, or life.
Bonds
The roadside shrine that sheltered him is his true home, and he will risk everything to defend temples, pilgrims, and innocent travelers. He also carries the broken iron door latch from the shrine crypt as a reminder of the children he protected.
Flaws
Kephas is quick to judge cowardice and disobedience, especially when lives are at stake. He can become rigid when confronted with morally complicated choices, and his fear of failing another group of innocents sometimes drives him to take reckless risks.
Quirks
Background
Kephas Eisenturm was born in a small human settlement built around an old roadside shrine. His family forged hinges, nails, and defensive fittings for the shrine and the nearby villages, which earned him the name Eisenturm, meaning iron tower. As a child, Kephas was more comfortable carrying tools than speaking prayers, but he learned that faith was not merely recited in quiet sanctuaries. It was demonstrated when the weak needed protection, when frightened travelers needed shelter, and when a grieving family needed someone strong enough to stand beside them. When raiders burned the settlement, Kephas survived by leading a group of children into the shrine crypt. The local priests sheltered them for three days while he kept watch at the sealed door. After the attack, he devoted himself fully to the temple, becoming an acolyte and eventually a sworn paladin of devotion. He believes laws exist to protect the vulnerable, not to glorify those who enforce them. Now he travels as an armored guardian, seeking the raiders who destroyed his home while helping communities that remind him of the people he failed to save.
