- Military RankSoldier
You have a military rank from your career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.

Appearance
Silas is a tall, lean man with the corded muscle of a long distance runner. His dark hair is kept in a military buzz cut, and his face is marked by a jagged scar that runs along his jawline. He wears dark green leather armor that has been meticulously oiled and carries a massive yew longbow. His eyes are a piercing, icy blue that seem to be constantly scanning the horizon for movement.
Mannerisms
Silas constantly polishes his arrowheads and speaks in short, clipped sentences that sound like military commands.
Personality
Silas is a man of few words and high expectations. He approaches every situation as if it were a military engagement, often performing a mental reconnaissance before speaking or acting. He is intensely loyal to those he considers 'in his squad' but remains cold and distant toward anyone he perceives as a civilian or a bureaucrat.
Ideals
Responsibility. I do what I must and obey just authority, but my highest duty is to the safety of those under my protection.
Bonds
I carry the tattered banner of the Silver Gryphons as a reminder of the friends I failed to save that night on the border.
Flaws
I have little respect for anyone who has not seen the horrors of battle, and I am quick to judge the leadership of others.

Background
Born in a border village that saw more than its fair share of skirmishes, Silas enlisted in the Silver Gryphon scouts as soon as he was of age. He spent five years ranging across the northern frontiers, mapping terrain and identifying enemy movements long before the main army arrived. He was a rising star in his unit until a high ranking officer ignored his warnings of an incoming ambush, leading to the slaughter of Silas's entire squad. Silas was the sole survivor, dragged from the carnage by a passing merchant caravan. He spent months recovering from his wounds, both physical and mental, before finally deciding that his skills were better used as a freelancer than a soldier. He took his discharge papers and his bow, leaving the military life behind, though he has found that the discipline of the service is a hard thing to truly abandon. He now seeks to find a new purpose for his deadly accuracy, one where he chooses the battles instead of following the orders of incompetent men.
