- SpellcastingLevel 1
Jannes is a 3rd-level spellcaster. His spellcasting ability is Charisma. He can use an arcane focus or component pouch as a spellcasting focus, and he knows four sorcerer cantrips and four sorcerer spells of 1st or 2nd level.
- Sorcerous Origin: Wild MagicLevel 1
Jannes has chosen the Wild Magic origin. His magic is unpredictable and can surge beyond his control.
- Wild Magic SurgeLevel 1
After casting a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, the DM can have Jannes roll a d20. On a result of 1, he rolls on the Wild Magic Surge table. The DM can also call for a surge after any sorcerer spell if desired.
- Tides of ChaosLevel 1
Jannes can manipulate the forces of chance. Once per long rest, before making an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, he can gain advantage on the roll. The DM can then allow him to roll on the Wild Magic Surge table after he casts a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher.
- Font of MagicLevel 2
Jannes has 3 sorcery points. He regains all expended sorcery points when he finishes a long rest. He can convert spell slots into sorcery points or spend sorcery points to create spell slots, following the sorcerer spell slot conversion rules.

- Metamagic: Subtle SpellLevel 3
Jannes knows the Subtle Spell option, allowing him to spend 1 sorcery point to cast a spell without any somatic or verbal components.
- Metamagic: Twinned SpellLevel 3
Jannes knows the Twinned Spell option, allowing him to spend sorcery points equal to the spell's level, or 1 point for a cantrip, to target a second eligible creature with a spell that normally targets only one creature and does not have a range of self.

Appearance
Jannes is a lean, broad-shouldered tiefling with brick-red skin weathered by years spent outdoors maintaining shrine roads and cemetery grounds. His black hair is kept short around a pair of swept-back horns, whose ridges are polished smooth from habitual handling. A faded blue prayer sash is always tied around his left wrist, its fabric worn pale and frayed exactly where his thumb rubs it during moments of concentration. His amber eyes have a steady, appraising look, and his long tail is usually curled around one ankle when he is standing still. He dresses in practical dark robes beneath a travel-stained mantle, carrying a silver holy symbol beside an arcane focus of blackened iron.
Mannerisms
Jannes touches the frayed place on his prayer sash whenever he is thinking. He counts under his breath before casting a spell, pauses after the number three as if expecting an interruption, and addresses hostile strangers with the same formal courtesy he uses for priests.
Personality
Jannes is measured, observant, and unfailingly polite, but his calm is more discipline than nature. He notices who is being ignored in a room and quietly places himself nearby. He has a dry sense of humor that emerges at inappropriate moments, especially when his magic produces a strange side effect. Although he speaks confidently about doctrine, he is privately unsure whether the powers in his blood are a temptation, a punishment, or simply a fact that must be used responsibly.
Ideals
Mercy. A person's origin is not a verdict. The worth of a soul is measured by what it chooses when given power over someone weaker.
Bonds
The roadside temple that raised him is in debt to a powerful noble family, and Jannes intends to repay that debt before the priests are forced to surrender the shrine. He also protects his battered prayer book, which contains the names of every traveler buried by the temple during his childhood.
Flaws
Jannes distrusts any kindness that arrives without a stated price. When his magic behaves unpredictably, he becomes secretive and insists that he can handle it alone, even when asking for help would be wiser.

Background
Jannes was raised in the shadow of a roadside temple where pilgrims often arrived exhausted, suspicious, or afraid of the tiefling boy tending the lamps. The priests gave him work before they gave him trust, and he learned to answer doubt with patience. He copied prayers, rang the dawn bell, buried nameless travelers, and kept the shrine's incense burning through winter storms. In time, however, the words of the liturgy began producing effects no priest had taught him. Flames bent toward his hands, whispered invocations answered in voices not his own, and once, during an argument with a visiting inquisitor, a burst of uncontrolled magic turned every candle in the sanctuary blue. The temple elders recognized sorcerous power, but not its source. Jannes's blood carries the mark of the Hells, yet his magic does not feel like a pact or a blessing. It is volatile, instinctive, and frighteningly eager to express itself. He left the temple with its permission, carrying a prayer book, a weathered sash, and instructions to discover whether his power could serve the faithful without becoming another reason to fear them. He now travels as both acolyte and reluctant spellcaster, seeking lost religious sites, dangerous omens, and evidence that even a cursed inheritance can be turned toward mercy.
