Appearance
Faro is a stocky human man standing six feet two inches tall, with a barrel-like frame of dense muscle and bone. His weathered, tanned skin bears old scars from military service and mercenary work. His close-cropped silver hair follows a severe military style, and a thick, carefully groomed silver beard frames his rugged face. His pale blue eyes are sharp and watchful, and his broad nose has been broken at least once. In casual settings, he wears a dark gray henley, battered leather vest, reinforced canvas work pants, steel-toed boots, and a plain silver ring on his right hand. In combat, he wears matte black tactical armor over a fitted bodysuit, reinforced cargo pants, tactical gloves, silent-soled boots, and a shield-bearing loadout adapted to modern security operations. His preferred weapon is a rune-etched rifle represented by a heavy crossbow or firearm equivalent, backed by a sidearm and combat knife.
Mannerisms
Faro speaks in short, clipped sentences and rarely raises his voice. He checks doors, windows, and ceiling corners whenever he enters a room. When thinking, he rubs the plain silver ring on his right hand. Before a fight, he silently counts the people in his unit, then counts them again after the danger passes.
Personality
Faro is gruff, practical, and unshakably loyal. He speaks in a low rumble, favors direct solutions, and has little patience for politics or theatrical displays of authority. He respects competence, courage, preparation, and anyone who keeps their word. Once Faro accepts someone as part of his unit, his loyalty becomes absolute.
Ideals
Duty. A soldier's first responsibility is to protect the people who cannot protect themselves. Orders matter, but the lives behind those orders matter more.
Bonds
The survivors of Faro's former unit are his family, and he will protect their descendants and surviving dependents at any cost. He also considers the compound his last command, and he refuses to let its people become another casualty report.
Flaws
Faro distrusts authority that has not been earned through hardship. He can become openly hostile toward officers, executives, and commanders who hide behind rank. He also treats retreat as a personal failure, even when it is the correct tactical choice, and he has difficulty admitting when he is exhausted, afraid, or emotionally attached to someone.
Quirks
Background
Faro was raised in a hard-working human settlement where promises were treated as contracts and competence mattered more than pedigree. He enlisted young, drawn by the certainty of discipline and the promise that a unit could become something stronger than any individual. Years of field operations turned him into a precise and dependable soldier. He learned to read a room before entering it, to count exits without thinking, and to trust the person who covered his blind side. His silver hair came early, after a disastrous operation that left most of his squad dead and left Faro with a permanent refusal to waste lives for the sake of appearances. After his discharge, Faro worked as a mercenary and private security specialist. He took contracts others avoided, dismantling hostile teams, extracting endangered personnel, and exposing corporate failures that powerful clients preferred to bury. The work paid well, but it hollowed out his faith in institutions. He eventually joined an elite guard unit protecting a fortified compound, seeing in its people a cause worth defending rather than another employer buying his trigger finger. Faro now serves as a Fighter of the Champion tradition, relying on relentless training, battlefield instincts, and disciplined aggression. In the training room, beneath matte black floors and hard white lights, he is a living lesson in patience. He waits, measures, and strikes only when the opening is real.
