Appearance
Talon is a lean, dark-feathered aarakocra with rust-red wing tips, a narrow ivory beak, and bright amber eyes. He stands unusually still when waiting, balanced on the balls of his feet with his wings held slightly away from his body, as if prepared to launch. His hooked beak gives his expression a permanent air of judgment, though his quick, sharp-toothed laugh is unexpectedly warm. He wears fitted leather armor beneath a weather-stained traveler's cloak, with a rapier at his hip, daggers strapped along his legs, and a shortbow built for aerial use.
Mannerisms
When listening, Talon angles his head sharply and fixes one amber eye on the speaker. He taps the end of his staff three times before making a decision, and he instinctively checks the nearest exit whenever he enters an unfamiliar room.
Personality
Talon is observant, restrained, and relentlessly practical. He speaks in concise statements, notices small changes in posture and terrain, and prefers preparation to bravado. Though he appears severe, he has a dry sense of humor and a strong protective instinct toward travelers, animals, and anyone who is outmatched. He dislikes being touched without warning and becomes visibly restless in enclosed spaces.
Ideals
Order. The world is dangerous enough without people making promises meaningless. Every trail, bargain, and law should lead somewhere dependable.
Bonds
The safety of his aerie depends on recovering the stolen maps and exposing whoever plans to use the hidden mountain routes.
Flaws
He treats rules as tools rather than principles, and becomes quietly contemptuous of anyone who follows a law that obviously protects the cruel or the powerful.
Quirks
Background
Talon was hatched among the high aeries where aarakocra hunters patrol the wind-carved cliffs and keep watch for threats from the ground. He learned early that the sky rewards attention rather than strength. While other fledglings practiced diving strikes, Talon memorized the paths of migrating beasts, the habits of caravan guards, and the places where a careless traveler left a pack unattended. His first real lesson in stealth came when he followed a poacher for three days without being noticed, then stole the man's snares and left them hanging from his own tent as a warning. Years spent ranging beyond the aerie brought him into contact with roads, ruins, and cities where wings attracted attention and honesty was often mistaken for weakness. Talon became a skilled scout, guide, and occasional thief, using height, silence, and careful observation to move through places others considered secure. He travels now because a set of stolen maps disappeared from his aerie, maps marking old watchposts and hidden mountain passes. He believes the theft was not random. Until he discovers who took them and why, he will follow every trail, obey every useful law, and break only the laws that stand between him and the truth.
