Appearance
A lean, athletic wood elf with long jet black hair, usually tied in a loose bun when hunting or fighting. He has sharp green eyes, a carefully curled black mustache, and a pointed goatee. His weathered green cloak is patched with pieces of old noble livery, and his leather armor is darkened with forest oil. A finely balanced rapier hangs at his hip, while a longbow and quiver rest across his back. His movements are light, confident, and theatrical, like a performer who never forgets that someone may be watching.
Mannerisms
He flourishes his rapier like a stage performer, taps rhythms on his bow when thinking, and gives an exaggerated bow whenever someone mentions the bounty on his head. Before taking a difficult shot, he quietly names the target's most embarrassing feature.
Personality
Charming, irreverent, and impossible to intimidate, Rowan treats danger as an invitation to improve the story. He is generous with food, coin, and stolen luxuries, but suspicious of anyone who claims authority without earning his respect. He enjoys crowded taverns, loud music, competitive drinking, and any opportunity to turn a narrow escape into a memorable performance.
Ideals
Justice. The law is only worthy of respect when it protects the powerless. When it serves the powerful, breaking it becomes a moral duty.
Bonds
The villages that sheltered him are his family, and he will risk everything to protect them from the baron's soldiers, corrupt officials, and predatory nobles.
Flaws
He cannot resist showing off when challenged, especially if someone doubts his skill with a bow, and his theatrical confidence sometimes turns a clean escape into a dangerous spectacle.
Quirks
Background
Rowan Blackbriar was born among the deep woods, where his elven kin taught him to read broken twigs, distant birdcalls, and the moods of the weather. He might have lived a quiet life as a warden and hunter, but the local baron began taxing the surrounding villages into hunger. Rowan first stole a wagon of grain, then intercepted a tax shipment, and finally shot the baron's cruel sheriff through the hand from so far away that the sheriff never saw the arrow fly. The stolen goods always found their way back to the people who needed them, and within a year, children were singing songs about the black-haired archer of the greenwood. The authorities call him a bandit, outlaw, and seditionist. The villagers call him Rowan of the Hundred Yards. He lives in a hidden woodland camp, moving often between abandoned watchtowers, hollow trees, and the homes of sympathetic farmers. He is as comfortable slipping through a crowded festival as he is stalking through wet underbrush, and he celebrates every successful theft with music, strong drink, and stories exaggerated just enough to keep the legend alive. Rowan has no faith in gods, temples, or divine judgment. He believes that justice is something living people must choose to create, preferably before the dancing starts.
