Appearance
Sofiya is a fair-skinned human woman of medium height with a compact, athletic build shaped by years of sword drills and temple work. Her dark brown hair is usually braided close to her head so it will not catch on a blade or spell component pouch. She has gray-green eyes, a long straight nose, and prominent upper canines that show whenever she laughs or bites into an apple. She stands closer to people than most expect, often leaning in with complete confidence, then notices their discomfort a moment too late. Her clothing combines a practical dueling coat, a pale temple sash, fitted trousers, and soft boots. A slender saber hangs at her hip, its guard wrapped in faded blue cord.
Mannerisms
She taps the pommel of her rapier when thinking, whispers the final words of a spell before casting it, and unconsciously shifts into a fencer's stance whenever someone raises their voice. When amused, she bares her prominent upper canines in a quick, wolfish grin.
Personality
Sofiya is warm, irreverent, and intensely curious. She speaks to strangers as if they are already part of a difficult but enjoyable conversation. She has a quick laugh, a sharper temper, and an instinctive willingness to put herself between danger and anyone being mistreated. Her faith is sincere, but she distrusts authority that demands obedience without compassion.
Ideals
Freedom. Faith should help people stand upright, not teach them to kneel forever. I will protect the right of every person to question, choose, and change.
Bonds
The shrine that raised me sheltered people whom the city had abandoned. I will defend it, its people, and the principles of compassionate faith, even when the institution itself loses its way.
Flaws
I mistake confidence for wisdom and would rather demonstrate that I am right than admit that I am frightened. I also have a terrible habit of treating solemn religious arguments like fencing bouts, complete with footwork and dramatic flourishes.

Background
Sofiya Shestak was raised in a small human shrine where the evening prayers were accompanied by bells, candle smoke, and the measured ringing of a practice blade. Her mother served as a lay healer, while her father maintained the shrine library and taught her to read by copying hymns. Sofiya discovered her gift for magic when she accidentally made every candle in the sanctuary burn blue during a particularly passionate argument about whether the gods could hear prayers spoken by people who had been turned away from the temple. The presiding priest recognized both her talent and her refusal to accept easy answers, and sent her to study with a traveling arcane tutor.
