Appearance
Sir Snappy is a broad-shelled male tortle with moss-green scales, amber eyes, and a weathered ivory beak. His shell is marked with faded red-and-gold bands from his village militia, along with several deep scars earned in battle. He wears a soldier's cloak over practical travel gear and carries an enormous greataxe sized for his powerful frame. Despite his imposing build, he often squints thoughtfully through small spectacles perched near the bridge of his beak while studying maps, battlefield diagrams, or old books.
Mannerisms
Sir Snappy taps the edge of his shell whenever he is thinking, straightens his posture whenever someone mentions military discipline, and addresses nearly everyone as either friend, comrade, citizen, or honored opponent. Before a dangerous fight, he quietly recites the names of his family members in order of age.
Personality
Sir Snappy is courteous, earnest, and intensely protective. He enjoys maps, tactical puzzles, old military songs, and hearing stories about how ordinary people survived extraordinary danger. He speaks with formal confidence, but his family taught him humility, so he is quick to praise the courage of others. In battle he becomes startlingly direct, roaring commands with the authority of a seasoned officer while still checking that the least experienced member of the group is safe.
Ideals
Protection. Strength has meaning only when it is used to shelter those who cannot defend themselves. Law. A promise, once given, is a duty, and a duty is not abandoned because it becomes difficult.
Bonds
His family and home village are his deepest treasures. He carries a small painted shell token made by his youngest sister and will risk everything to defend his former comrades and any community that reminds him of home.
Flaws
Sir Snappy believes every problem can be solved with enough preparation, courage, and a properly organized defensive formation. He is slow to retreat, even when retreat is wise, and becomes stubborn when someone questions his judgment. He also has a dangerous habit of treating powerful enemies as potential recruits until they prove themselves irredeemable.
Quirks
Background
Sir Snappy was raised in a strong tortle village surrounded by salt marshes, mangrove forests, and broad fields of shell beans. His parents were patient, loving, and practical, teaching him that strength existed to protect the vulnerable and that every promise should be kept. Though his unusual intelligence made him a voracious reader of histories and military treatises, he was never distant from his family. He helped repair seawalls, trained with the village guard, and learned that a well-timed shield wall could save more lives than a reckless display of courage. When raiders threatened the village, Snappy organized the defenders, predicted the enemy's approach, and held the southern gate through an entire night. His actions earned him the title of local war hero and the formal honorific Sir, bestowed by the grateful village elders. Yet victory left him with a restless question. He had defended his home, but he had not yet found a home of his own. With his family's blessing, he set out as an adventurer, seeking worthy companions, lost communities in need of protection, and perhaps a village where his strength, discipline, and good heart might finally belong. He fights with the fury of a storm but follows a strict personal code, never abandoning civilians or striking an enemy who has truly surrendered.
