When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action if you have used a bonus action to attack with a light melee weapon or have taken certain other qualifying actions. In this build, Oroth’s fighting style centers on disciplined weapon work rather than reckless swinging.

When On a successful Battle Master maneuver
When Oroth uses a maneuver that pushes, trips, or disarms, he describes it as a careful correction rather than brutality.
- Fighting StyleLevel 1
You have learned the basics of martial combat and can use armor, shields, and weapons with practiced confidence. You are built for direct confrontation and battlefield control.
- Action SurgeLevel 2
Once per short or long rest, you can take one additional action on your turn. Oroth uses this to surge forward, break a line, or commit to an improvised, often ridiculous plan with frightening speed.
- Martial Archetype: Battle MasterLevel 3
Choose a martial archetype. Oroth fights with the precision of a tactician and the instincts of a brawler, preferring to disable, bait, and punish rather than simply hit harder.
- Combat SuperiorityLevel 3
You gain superiority dice and can use maneuvers to control the battlefield. Oroth’s style emphasizes threats, timing, and the strange elegance of violence when it is done for a cause.
- Student of WarLevel 3
You gain proficiency with one type of artisan’s tools or gaming set. Oroth has learned to keep his hands busy and his mind sharp while listening for lies.
- TraitGoliathPowerful Build, you count as one size larger when determining carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
- TraitGoliathMountain Born, you are acclimated to high altitude and naturally suited to cold climates.
- TraitGoliathNatural Athlete, you have proficiency in the Athletics skill.
- TraitGoliathStone Camaraderie, Oroth instinctively trusts practical labor, endurance, and shared hardship over polished status.
- Criminal ContactCriminal
You have reliable contacts in the criminal underworld and the city’s lower channels. You know who can move rumors, contraband, or a body, and you can usually find a discreet way to make a problem disappear or reappear somewhere inconvenient.
Gear
8 itemsWeapons
- WarhammerA heavy hammer suited to Oroth’s overwhelming strength and battlefield style.
- 4×JavelinA martial weapon kept as a backup and sometimes used when a broader reach is needed.
- Hand crossbowA hand crossbow carried more for practical intimidation than elegance.
Armor
- Chain mailWell-made suit of heavy armor, worn and repaired enough to show real use but kept in good order.
- ShieldA shield large enough to look like a door in his hands, often used to protect allies or punctuate a threat.
Tools
- Gaming setA pouch of dice and marked tokens, useful for gambling, distraction, and the occasional social lie.
Gear
- Traveler's clothesA set of dark, fitted traveling clothes chosen to move easily beneath armor and not snag on a sudden escape.
- Keepsake bundleA small bundle of keepsakes, including a mended ribbon from Nixie and a carved stone token from the mountains.
Appearance
A towering stone goliath with weathered slate-gray skin veined in pale quartz lines, broad shoulders, and hands like carved hammers. Oroth wears a dark, practical half-plate polished to a muted sheen, a scarlet scarf knotted at the throat, and heavy steel-toed boots that look absurdly delicate only until he moves. His expression is stern at rest, but his eyes soften instantly around Dexter or Nixie, and the contrast makes him seem half siege engine, half devoted giant.
Mannerisms
Oroth speaks in a low, deliberate rumble and often pauses as if weighing each word in one massive hand. When he is worried, he polishes a weapon or adjusts Dexter’s gear without noticing he is doing it. He tends to crouch slightly when talking to smaller folk, not out of condescension, but so his voice feels less like a storm cloud arriving.
Personality
Quietly protective, unexpectedly courteous, and intensely stubborn once he has chosen a cause. Oroth is the kind of giant who will carry a corpse through a city gate, fake a disease for the sake of an investigation, and then blush when a date goes well. He enjoys practical jokes only when they end with everyone safe, and he has an almost reverent fondness for people who keep working despite hardship.
Ideals
Protection. Strength is not for domination, it is for shelter. If Oroth can stand between the helpless and the hungry, the cruel, or the corrupt, then his power has a purpose. He believes loyalty should be proven in deeds, not speeches.
Bonds
Dexter is family, not a pet, and Nixie is the first person in a long time who made Oroth want a future instead of a fight. He also carries a hard, private promise to see Captain Brass pay for Jimmy’s abduction, and he will not let The Gilded Suture, The Silver Mist Apothecary, or anyone else be crushed by taxes, harassment, or petty cruelty while he still has breath enough to lift his hammer.
Flaws
Oroth is easily baited when someone threatens the people he cares about, and once his temper ignites he may trust violence more than caution. He also has a dangerous habit of treating elaborate lies, disguises, and social schemes as if they were just another kind of fight, which means he sometimes escalates a problem that could have been solved quietly.
Quirks
Background
Oroth Strong was raised high in the cold stone ridges where his people measure worth by endurance, patience, and the ability to carry what others cannot. He learned early that strength without restraint is just collapse waiting to happen, so he became the sort of giant who listens first, then acts with terrible certainty. When he came down from the mountains, he found city life full of soft rules, sharp tongues, and people who underestimated him the moment they saw his size. That mistake became his advantage. He learned how to stand still in a crowd, how to read fear, and how to make himself useful in places where brute force alone would only draw guards.
