Appearance
Katik Sato is a lean, broad-shouldered human with sun-browned skin, close-cropped black hair, and a narrow scar crossing the bridge of his nose. His dark eyes are steady and observant. He wears a weathered chain shirt beneath layered blue-gray priestly robes, with a red wool sash from the high valleys of his childhood. His holy symbol is a small copper sun disk etched with stepped mountain lines.
Mannerisms
He touches the copper sun at his throat before answering serious questions. When worried, he counts under his breath in groups of four, usually while rubbing the edge of his shield with his thumb.
Personality
Katik is patient with frightened people, blunt with bullies, and intensely attentive to small practical details. He remembers names, injuries, food preferences, and unfinished promises. He prefers doing useful work to making speeches, but when he finally speaks with conviction, his quiet voice carries surprising force.
Ideals
Mercy is not weakness. A community survives when people protect one another before they are asked.
Bonds
The people of his buried mountain village are never far from his thoughts. He carries a small stone from its shrine and will risk himself to protect communities threatened by disaster or neglect.
Flaws
Katik cannot easily accept help. He measures his worth by how much suffering he can prevent, and he becomes irritable or reckless when others insist that he rest. He also has a quiet distrust of wealthy religious institutions, which can make him unfair toward well-meaning clergy.
Quirks
Background
Katik Sato was born in a highland settlement where stone terraces climbed the mountainsides and every household kept a small shrine to the Dawn Mother. His family maintained irrigation channels, but Katik was more interested in the old prayers spoken before the first thaw. When a landslide buried half the village, he spent three days carrying water, food, and messages between the survivors and the distant temple. The temple keeper noticed that Katik remembered every name of the dead and every promise made by the living, so she took him in as an acolyte. Years later, Katik left the temple after receiving a vision of a copper sun sinking beneath black water. He interpreted it as a warning that isolated faith was not enough. He took up a mace, shield, and road-worn prayer book, traveling from settlement to settlement to mend disputes, tend the injured, and investigate signs of unnatural darkness. His training has made him a cleric of the Life Domain, but his miracles are quiet and practical. He closes wounds, steadies frightened hands, and reminds people that survival is itself a sacred act.
