Appearance
A tall, slender high elf with moon-pale skin, long silver-black hair, and luminous violet eyes. Fine ink stains mark her fingers, while faint, star-like sigils shimmer beneath the skin of her left wrist. She wears practical dark leather beneath a weathered scholar's robe, with a silver orb serving as her arcane focus and a red thread tied around one ear as a personal reminder of a promise. Her expression is usually thoughtful and distant, but becomes intensely alert whenever forbidden magic is mentioned.
Mannerisms
She taps the end of her quill against her lower lip while thinking, pauses before answering as though consulting an invisible footnote, and unconsciously traces a circle around any unfamiliar symbol.
Personality
Quietly intense, relentlessly curious, and unfailingly polite even when threatening someone. She treats every conversation like an exchange of information and has a habit of asking one question too many. Despite her ominous pact, she is protective of apprentices, librarians, and anyone whose voice is being ignored.
Ideals
Knowledge should be preserved, questioned, and shared. Secrets may be dangerous, but ignorance is worse.
Bonds
The burned library of her childhood must be rebuilt, and every surviving fragment of its collection must be recovered. She also protects a single surviving page from the forbidden codex, even though it sometimes whispers her name.
Flaws
She cannot leave a mystery alone, even when investigating it is clearly dangerous. Ilyra also edits other people's explanations mid-sentence, and she secretly fears that her most original thoughts may actually belong to her patron.

Background
Ilyra Vey was raised in the upper libraries of a moonlit elven city, where her family served as custodians of histories too dangerous to be copied. She became an exceptional researcher, not because she loved dusty books, but because she could sense when a written account had been altered by magic. Her investigations eventually led her to a sealed codex written in a language that shifted whenever she looked away. The book contained no name for its author, only a recurring symbol resembling an open eye surrounded by thorns. The codex spoke to Ilyra in dreams and taught her rituals no mortal tutor would claim. When a fire consumed the archive, she survived by accepting a bargain with the unseen intelligence behind the book. The pact saved her life, but it also left a fragment of that intelligence lodged in her thoughts. Now she travels as a scholar and warlock, seeking lost texts before her patron finds them first. She tells herself that knowledge is safer in her hands, though she has begun to suspect that every mystery she solves is another lock quietly opened for her patron.
