Nova can cast artificer spells using Intelligence as her spellcasting ability. She uses thieves' tools or artisan's tools as a spellcasting focus for her artificer spells.
- Magical TinkeringLevel 1
Nova knows how to imbue mundane objects with minor magical properties, such as producing light, playing a recorded message, emitting an odor, or displaying a visual effect.
- The Right Tool for the JobLevel 3
Nova gains proficiency with smith's tools, and her proficiency bonus is doubled for ability checks made using any tool with which she is proficient.
- Infuse ItemLevel 2
Nova can infuse mundane objects with magical artificer infusions. She knows six infusions and can maintain two infused items at once.
- Battle ReadyLevel 3
Nova gains proficiency with martial weapons. When attacking with a magical weapon, she can use Intelligence instead of Strength or Dexterity for attack and damage rolls.
- Steel DefenderLevel 3
Nova has constructed a Small or Medium steel defender that acts on her initiative. It can move and use its reaction independently, and it obeys her commands. Its Force-Empowered Rend attacks deal 1d8 + 2 force damage, and its Repair action restores 2d8 + 2 hit points to a construct or object.
- Flash of GeniusLevel 7
Nova can use her reaction to add her Intelligence modifier to a creature's ability check or saving throw within 30 feet, or to an attack roll against a creature within 30 feet. She can use this feature a number of times equal to her Intelligence modifier, regaining all uses after a long rest.

Appearance
Nova is a lean, muscular human woman with sun-browned skin, copper-brown hair usually tied into a practical knot, and alert gray-green eyes. She wears reinforced leather beneath a soot-darkened traveling coat, with brass fittings, tool loops, and narrow lenses mounted above her brow. Her hands are permanently marked by fine traces of graphite and machine oil. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice the faint scent of cedar, hot metal, and alchemical solvent that follows her everywhere. Before speaking, she pauses to inhale through her nose as though measuring the room, then answers in a low, precise voice.
Mannerisms
Nova pauses before answering difficult questions and quietly taps a rhythm against her thumb with one finger. She inspects doors, bridges, weapons, and furniture for structural weaknesses without realizing she is doing it. When concentrating, she whispers measurements and equations under her breath.
Personality
Nova is intensely curious, direct, and quietly compassionate. She treats broken objects with more patience than she gives most people, but once someone earns her trust she becomes fiercely protective. She speaks of machines as collaborators rather than possessions and becomes visibly uncomfortable when people use words like disposable or expendable. Social customs learned during ten years of isolation often seem like inefficient rituals to her, though she secretly enjoys listening to travelers tell stories.
Ideals
Freedom. Knowledge should never belong exclusively to kings, temples, or armies. If a discovery can help ordinary people, it should not be locked away simply because it is dangerous.
Bonds
Daedalus gave Nova knowledge that could reshape the world, and she will uncover what happened to him before anyone else can exploit his legacy. Her steel defender is not property in her eyes, but her first true partner and the proof that crafted life deserves a choice.
Flaws
Nova assumes that every problem can be solved by building something more complicated. She is impatient with cautious authorities, hoards dangerous prototypes instead of destroying them, and finds it almost impossible to admit that an invention has failed.
Quirks
Background
Nova was born among ordinary human craftsmen, but her unusual patience and instinct for mechanisms drew the attention of Daedalus, the legendary mortal engineer whose ancient works included constructs as wondrous and terrible as Talos. Under his instruction, she learned to read stress in metal, balance motion through hidden counterweights, and bind magical force into gears, plates, and articulated joints. Daedalus taught her that a machine was not merely a tool. It was an argument made physical, a way to impose intention upon the world. Nova became fascinated by the boundary between a commanded construct and a companion capable of choice. When Nova believed she had learned enough to stand on her own, she withdrew from civilization for ten years. In a concealed workshop beneath a forgotten ravine, she refined her own designs, developing a long-barreled repeating crossbow that strikes with brutal accuracy and a compact steel defender built to guard, scout, and think beside her. Her isolation also led to a discovery concerning an ancient network of construct-forges, one that may explain both Daedalus's greatest creation and his disappearance. Nova has returned to the wider world because the forge is awakening, and because she refuses to let tyrants claim the power to manufacture obedient armies.
“Daedalus taught her that a machine was not merely a tool.”
