Appearance
A small brass-scaled kobold with bright amber eyes, a soot-smudged snout, and a tail wrapped in leather bands to keep it from snagging on tools. He wears fitted scale mail reinforced with copper rivets, a tool belt crowded with chisels, wire, wax seals, and spare gears, and keeps his claws polished with oil. His pack is full of labeled pouches, sketches, and half-finished inventions that clatter softly when he walks.
Mannerisms
He taps every tabletop twice before sitting, counts screws under his breath when nervous, and speaks to machines as if they are shy apprentices. When excited, his tail stiffens like a pointer stick and he gestures with a wrench even when he is not holding one.
Personality
Brindle is meticulous, eager, and unfailingly proud of good workmanship. He treats every problem like a puzzle worth respecting, and every person like a machine that deserves understanding before judgment. He is polite to the point of formality when calm, but becomes a whirring storm of enthusiasm around clever mechanisms, rare alloys, and anything with moving parts.
Ideals
Craft. Anything broken can be improved, if you understand it well enough and are patient enough to do the work right. A thing made carefully is a promise that the world can be safer tomorrow than it was today.
Bonds
He still sends a share of every honest earnings to the workshop guild that gave him his first real chance, and he keeps a little brass token from his clutch tucked inside his tool roll as a promise that he will come back richer in skill, if not in coin.
Flaws
Brindle cannot resist taking apart any interesting mechanism he finds, even when doing so is unwise, illegal, or actively on fire. He also overcompensates for being overlooked by speaking too quickly, insisting on exactness, and refusing help until the problem has become embarrassing.
Quirks
Background
Brindle was hatched in a tunnel-side settlement where kobolds were expected to dig, guard, and scurry out of sight. He was the one who stopped digging long enough to notice patterns in the stone, stress lines in support beams, the way a hinge failed before it broke, the way a bad lock was just a puzzle with an attitude. When a caravan engineer traded a broken pressure valve for shelter, Brindle spent three nights repairing it with scavenged springs and berry resin, and discovered that the world made sense when it was built, not just endured. He apprenticed himself to a guild workshop in a river city after presenting a contraption that could keep furnace heat steady through the night. The masters were not sure what to make of a kobold with singed whiskers and too many questions, but they liked results. Brindle learned standards, contracts, measurements, and the sacred importance of not losing your temper when a machine misbehaved. He now travels to earn coin, collect rare components, and prove that a kobold artisan can build wonders sturdy enough to outlast the people who doubted him. He also quietly hopes to one day return home and give his clutchmates a safer, brighter burrow.
