Appearance
Lysander is a tall warforged constructed from dark ironwood, brushed steel, and lacquered black plates. His face is a smooth, expressionless mask framed by a narrow crest of polished brass. A faded silver heraldic device, the crest of the Lysander family, is set into his breastplate. He keeps his armor meticulously cleaned and repeatedly checks the shield straps and family insignia whenever he pauses. His movements are controlled and deliberate, and his green magical eyes brighten whenever he is assessing a possible threat.
Mannerisms
Lysander stands at attention whenever someone addresses him formally. During conversation, he quietly checks the position of his shield straps or brushes dust from the family crest. He pauses before answering personal questions, as though searching an internal military manual for the correct response.
Personality
Lysander is precise, courteous, and intensely observant. He speaks in the measured tone of a military aide and remembers small details about everyone under his protection. Although he appears emotionally distant, he is fascinated by ordinary choices, especially decisions made without orders. He shows affection through readiness, maintaining someone's equipment, taking the most dangerous watch, or silently placing himself between a companion and a threat.
Ideals
Duty. A promise is a structure that must bear weight. If it collapses whenever it becomes difficult, it was never a promise at all.
Bonds
The Lysander family crest set into his breastplate is the last surviving symbol of his creators. He will defend it, and the memory of the family, even when doing so is inconvenient or dangerous.
Flaws
Lysander is dangerously reluctant to abandon a command, even when the person giving it is foolish, cruel, or clearly unworthy. He also struggles to admit that he wants companionship rather than merely a new assignment.
Quirks
Background
Lysander was crafted in the fortified estate of House Lysander, commissioned as a guardian for the family bloodline. He was given no personal name. The household called him simply by his purpose, and when the family name became the only identity he possessed, he adopted Lysander as his own. He was trained in shield formations, mounted defense, and the careful reading of noble etiquette, then assigned to protect the family heirs through war, intrigue, and famine. He learned that a guardian's duty was not merely to stand between danger and the protected, but to remember every preference, fear, and weakness of the person behind him. Generations passed, and the estate dwindled. The final Lysander died without an heir, leaving behind an empty manor, a locked armory, and a command that could no longer be fulfilled. Unable to accept that his purpose had ended, Lysander departed into the wider world. He now serves as a paladin, treating discipline and sworn duty as sacred principles even though he follows no deity. He seeks a new lord or lady whose cause is worthy of his protection, but he has begun to suspect that choosing whom to serve may be the first decision that truly belongs to him.
